Synopsis:
Tony Curtis was one of the golden age of Hollywood's leading men whose career spanned six decades. He acted in more than 100 films in roles covering a wide range of genres, from light comedy to serious drama and was nominated for numerous awards including Academy and Golden Globes and Primetime Emmy Awards throughout his career. This 10 DVD Collection brings together some of his most acclaimed films. THE MIDNIGHT STORY: After a priest is murdered, a traffic officer becomes obsessed with finding the killer. Eventually ordered off the case, he befriends the suspect's family, but becomes torn between old and new loyalties when he starts doubting the suspect's guilt. THE PURPLE MASK: France, 1803: eleven years after the Revolution, a royalist underground is led by a new 'Scarlet Pimpernel', the 'Purple Mask' (Tony Curtis), who rescues nobles in distress and kidnaps Napoleon Bonaparte's (Robert Cornthwaite's) officials for ransom, aided by the spy services of a group of lovely models headed by Laurette de Latour (Colleen Miller), Duc de Latour's (Paul Cavanagh's) daughter. But even she doesn't know the Purple Mask's real identity as foppish dancing master Rene de Traviere. THE BLACK SHIELD OF FALWORTH: Myles Falworth, the son of a disgraced knight, is determined to prove himself. With the help of the Earl of Mackworth and despite the sneers of his contemporaries, he trains for his knighthood and finally earns his spurs and the nation's thanks when he foils a plot to de-throne King Henry IV. His love interest is Lady Anne Mackworth, while the Earl of Alban is the requisite baddie that Falworth must overcome. MISTER CORY: Cory, an ambitious Chicago slum kid with a knack for gambling, gets a busboy job at a posh Wisconsin resort...where his real purpose is to gamble with the staff and guests and romance rich young ladies. Setbacks follow, but Cory eventually rises to a high position in the world of professional gambling. But he just can't forget the glamorous Vollard sisters. 6 BRIDGES TO CROSS: In the 1930's, newly minted Boston policeman Eddie Gallagher (George Nader) breaks up a robbery by a group of hooligans led by Jerry Florea (Sal Mineo). Though Eddie shoots and wounds Jerry in the process, the boy later comes to him to provide a tip on another robbery. Over the years, the two develop a relationship in which Eddie guides Jerry, who struggles to reform. When the adult Jerry (Tony Curtis) hopes to enlist in the Army, he is prevented by his criminal past, until Eddie lends a hand. SON OF ALI BABA: In medieval Persia, Kashma Baba is a military cadet by day and a roisterer by night. The morning after a rowdy banquet, Kiki, an escaped slave, takes shelter under Kashma's roof. Word comes that the wicked Caliph is looking for her; but Kashma, by this time in love, flees with her to his father's palace. Alas, there's more to Kiki than meets the eye. Will the evil schemers succeed? The sons of the Forty Thieves to the rescue! YOU CAN'T WIN THEM ALL: Two former U.S. Army soldiers, Adam Dyer and Josh Corey, join a band of Turkish mercenaries in 1922 Turkey. They are hired by Osman Bey, a local governor, to escort his three daughters to Smyran and to protect a gold shipment that is to accompany them. Nobody is aware that Elci, a local colonel, plans to steal the gold for himself, while a rebel general pursues all parties involved. THE LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER: British army Colonel Anthony Gethryn (George C. Scott) is contacted by his old friend, Adrian Messenger (John Merivale), to investigate 11 men, whose names Messenger provides. After a plane carrying Messenger is blown up by a mysterious perpetrator, Gethryn determines that the men on the list had been prisoners of war in Burma during World War II--and that someone connected to a minor British aristocrat (Clive Brook) is methodically murdering each man on the list. THE OUTSIDER: The story of Ira Hayes (Tony Curtis), a Pima Native American who helped lift the American flag over Iwo Jima, Japan. After enlisting in the Marines, Hayes suffers prejudice among his fellow soldiers but finds a friend in Jim Sorenson (James Franciscus). Both are immortalised in the famous World War II photo, but Sorenson is killed shortly after it is taken. When he returns to America, Hayes is greeted as a hero but suffers from survivor's guilt that drives him to alcoholism. THE GREAT IMPOSTER: When Ferdinand Waldo Demara Jr (Tony Curtis) is arrested by the U.S. Coast Guard, the authorities discover that Demara has had many different identities. In a series of flashbacks, Demara's life story is revealed. After quitting high school, he joined the Army with faked papers and--when his lie was detected--stole the identity of a monk. After that, Demara travelled the world, assuming the identity of a sailor, a prison warden, a teacher and a doctor.
