WHERE TO GROW ALOE ARBORESCENS

If you live in areas where winter temperatures are not particularly cold, it is possible to plant it directly in your garden.

In the colder regions and in mountain areas in general, it is preferable to cultivate it in pots, of suitable size, in order to be able to repair the plant during the colder months.

Aloe loves the sun and scientific studies show that the quantity of gel, the size of the plant and the length of the leaves are directly proportional to the amount of sunlight received by the plant during its life.

The best soil to cultivate it is that for succulent plants that you find in agriculture, possibly organic, but a clay base is always recommended to allow drainage.

BE CAREFUL: never put saucers, otherwise there would be the risk of STAGNATION!

HOW TO GROW AN ALOE PLANT

  • Like any type of plant, even if it does not need specific and constant care, it still needs to be pampered. It will respond to your care by growing vigorous and giving off positive vibes in your home.
  • The optimal amount of water depends on various factors, in general a glass 1/2 times a week may be sufficient, taking care not to wet the leaves. This prevents water from settling between one leaf and another, with the danger of rottingBut remember, when in doubt it is better to keep yourself scarce!
  • Being a succulent plant that in its natural state is accustomed to a dry climate, too abundant watering could be considerably more harmful, you would even risk drowning it!
  • If the plant is grown for therapeutic purposes, it is advisable not to irrigate 7-8 days before harvesting so that the active ingredients are more concentrated.

Do you know the properties and benefits of this plant? Have you ever heard of Father Zago’s famous recipe?

In these articles you can find out more about it.

REPOTTING

  • Repotting must be done in spring, very carefully and gradually increasing the size of the pot.

  • Young plants should be transplanted once a year, while those that have reached 3 years of life, on the other hand, once every three.

  • When they reach the age of 5, they contain greater benefits for your health and must be repotted once every 5.

REMEMBER TO:

1. avoid repotting during flowering

2. do not water before planting (the soil must be completely dry!)

3. after removing the plant from the pot, clean the roots of the old substrate of soil

3. after planting, do not give it water for 5-6 days and keep it in a shady area.

FLOWERING AND LEAVES

Aloe Arborescens blooms between December and February, the exact period depends on the variety, and the flowers range from orange to bright red.

Spinning Leaves

  • if the leaves of the plant begin to grow long and thin, it means that the lighting is very poor. You should quickly move it to a brighter place!

Leaves starting to turn yellow, having yellowish and brownish spots

  • after these first signs the leaves begin to curl up until they crumble and fall.  If you observe them carefully, you will probably also notice very thin cobwebs because, given the symptoms, it means that we are in the presence of an attack of red spider mite, a harmful and annoying mite.

Try using natural, homemade (never chemical) garlic insecticides.

Cotton-like bows at the base of the leaves

  • Aloe Arborescens is a very rustic plant, however, attention must be paid to the cochineal infestation. It is an easily identifiable mushroom with a white color and reminiscent of tiny cotton flakes.

To avoid chemical treatments we advise you to spray the plant with a 50% solution of water and organic alcohol (or grappa).
