About This Item

Firenze [Florence]: Leonardo Ciardetti, 1822. Leather. Very Good. 9" by 6". None. The autobiography of famed Italian tragedian Vittorio Alfieri, in the original Italian. Two volumes bound together in half vellum, in the original Italian.Published posthumously, this autobiography is Vittorio Alfieri's chief work of prose. An Italian dramatist and poet, Alfieri is often considered to be the 'founder of Italian tragedy'. He composed nineteen tragedies, alongside sonnets, satires and epigrams. Despite a dramatic and troubled existence, this work is surprising in the cold and languid gravity he applies to the most interesting adventures and strongest passions of his life in nineteenth century Italy. These works are bound with their individual title pages, and with an illustrated frontispiece to each volume. In the original half vellum binding with cloth covered boards. Marks to the boards, age toning to back strip. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good
