Summary[edit]

Description
Italiano: Comparto Unione area ex-Falck

English: The water tower is an elevated water tank with the task of conveying large quantities of groundwater to be used in the steelmaking process. One of the primary reasons for the establishment of Falck and other metalworking industries in Sesto San Giovanni was the great need for and availability of water for the metalworking plants. Dated around the mid 20th century, this is one of the towers which could be encountered in each of the four factories for Falck production.

This building is located at the far northern end of the Unione plant in the Falck areas and is an important visual landmark in the urban setting. Its name “Torre Unione” emphasises its importance as an icon of Sesto’s working-class culture.

The building is placed in a brownfield area. It is part of the project of Sesto San Giovanni per l'UNESCO, as one of the buildings of the application for inscription on the world heritage list for humanity in the evolving cultural landscape category.
