Charlie's Angels stars Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson reunite in rare public appearance: 'Friend for the ages'

Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson, who starred in the beloved 1970s crime-drama Charlie's Angels alongside the late Farrah Fawcett, reunited at the wedding of Smith's son Gaston on Saturday at Smith's Los Angeles home.

"I came in, I saw her sitting there, and we just hugged," Smith tells EW. "We couldn't stop hugging each other because she's gone her way and not been in the public eye, I've gone mine, and life happens and you don't see each other as much — but it was like no time had passed," she continues of spending time with Jackson, who was last publicly photographed attending Fawcett's funeral in 2009. Before that, she and Smith were last photographed together during a Charlie's Angels reunion at the Emmys in 2006.

"She's a friend for the ages, it goes the distance," says Smith, who shared video of her son's wedding festivities on Instagram Thursday morning. "She was there when Gaston was born. She spent Christmases with him early on, so it was really meant to be."

Smith, who portrayed Kelly Garrett, was the only one of the original Angels to star in all five seasons of the show. Jackson, who played Sabrina Duncan, appeared in three seasons, while Fawcett, who played Jill Munroe, starred in a single season of the show before departing.

"We really were a team," Smith says of that original Angels trio. "A friend is like a present you give yourself. You share the ups and downs, and certainly we did. We did not expect what happened to us on Charlie's. We crossed that bridge together and had fun along the way. We had some heartache, but we had mostly joy."

Smith adds that Cheryl Ladd, who starred on Charlie's Angels as Kris Munroe for the final four seasons, also wanted to attend Gaston's wedding, but "life interferes — though she was there in spirit."

Charlie's Angels the show ended in 1981, but Smith made a cameo in the Banks-directed 2019 movie reboot starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska. The first big-screen adaptation of the series — starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu — was released in 2000, followed by its sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, in 2003.
