Trevi Fountain was my favorite stop in Rome! This fountain is so beautiful and words can't even describe how amazing it is. I was simply in awe here. Trevi fountain the largest Baroque fountain in Rome and was built in 1732.
Being one of the most beauitiful fountains in the world; it can be quite the tourist spot and so I definitely recommend try to get here early and not at the peak times in the afternoon/early evening. Aside from taking photos; you can also make a wish and throw a coin in the fountain. I made a wish :)! All coins thrown in the fountain actually go to a good cause. The coins that end up in the fountain get donated each year to Rome's Catholic charity Caritas.
I would definitely love to visit Trevi Fountain again. Hmm rumor has it if you throw one coin in; you will be coming back to Rome :). Maybe my wish will have come true then ;).Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 25, 2024
The Trevi Fountain is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Rome. It's over 250 years old (which is young in this city) and always crowded.
If you come during the day be sure to come back after dark. That is when this place really shines.
Dine at a nearby restaurant or get some gelato afterwards. Toss a coin over your shoulder into the water to ensure your return.
Watch for pickpockets.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 31613163949Mar 17, 2024
I guess you can't go to Rome without seeing the fountain, and since our hotel was a short walk away, we visited it, and the great gelato places near it, many times.
The fountain gets very crowded, and we were there in the morning, around lunch, and late at night and never saw it ease up much. People don't just come and look at it..they hang out, so be prepared for a crowd.
It's a beautifully preserved 17th century masterpiece that celebrates the Roman god Oceanus and is currently known as Rome's largest fountain and a place where tourists toss coins over their shoulders for good luck.
While hanging out by the fountain is pretty, I recommend hitting up the rooftop bar at the Hotel Fontana across from the fountain. There's a cover, but the vote and drinks are great.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 6953912965Jan 13, 2024
Of course, a visit to one of the "most famous fountains in the world" was on our itinerary, as a must do/see when we (my hubby & I) visited Rome for the 1st time (October 2023) to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary (yep, love was in the air ;).
We were visiting from Austin, Texas - United States and just wanted to share my feedback about our experience when we visited The Trevi Fountain (on Weds. October 3, 2023 at 1:30 am) because details are so helpful when you're planning for an international trip and putting together your itinerary when visiting a different country.
For those who don't know, here are a few fun facts about The Trevi Fountain :
- - - it's made from the same material as the Colosseum and it's a "free-99" thing to do!
- - - Trevi Fountain legend:
make sure to bring coins w/ you to toss over your shoulder & into the fountain..why, you ask?! Well, according to the legend, 1 coin toss into the fountain means you'll return to Rome (see pic included in this review of my coin toss), tossing 2 coins means you'll return & fall in love, and tossing 3 coins means you'll return, fall in love, & marry!
- - - the coins that get tossed in the fountain are given to charity. It is illegal to steal the coins from the foundation so please be respectful & not one of those a$$hole tourists that ends up on the news.
Additional Helpful Info:
- - - Webcam of the Trevi Fountain - Rome:
there's a live feed of the Trevi Fountain (Skyline Webcam) that you can watch 24 hrs & the quality is really good!
It's helpful to watch the livestream to see how busy the fountain is before you visit and an even cooler feature is having your family back home watch you on the livestream while you're actually at the Trevi Fountain! Which is what my hubby & I did during our visit (see the screenshot of the pic taken from the webcam included in this review)
- - - best time to visit to avoid busy crowds:
We REALLY enjoyed our visit to The Trevi Fountain and this is because we avoided the huge crowds of people by visiting around 1:30am.
At this early morning time, there were only a handful of people at the fountain so we were able to walk right up to The Trevi Fountain w/ no issue (see video/pics included in this review
of the live action).
No crowds meant that we were able to take our time w/ capturing our pics/videos (see our awesome pics included in this review) AND most importantly, avoiding the crowds had the added bonus of lowering the possibly of getting pickpocketed.
We were on a walking tour (highly recommend our tour guide -Nocturnal Rome tickets bought through Airbnb Experiences -link below) & our tour guide had us visit all the other sites 1st before visiting Trevi Fountain.

To sum it up, getting to "roam around Rome" was such a magical experience!
There's so much history to explore & a visit to The Trevi Fountain is history worth seeing up close if you get the chance to do so.
Till next time Rome, (of course, I'll be having a return trip to Rome because I tossed my coin in The Trevi Fountain! :))

January 22-25, 2024 in Rome, Italy
We stayed walking distance to this stunning beauty.
We went during the day but preferred it at night especially with our gelato, we made it our nightly end of day practice to get a different gelato each night and sit here to enjoy our time. We can't get enough and we highly recommended it to any and all.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 30, 2023
Yes I DID cry at the Trevi Fountain like the true tourist I am, OKAY? Something about the magic and the history and the wish-making and the beauty of it all really got to me. It was my first night in Rome and, since I was lucky enough to be staying in the Campo di Fiori neighborhood, I decided to take a walk to quick check out some of the major nearby landmarks. I once again HAVE to recommend taking your trip to Italy in November. Upon my arrival at dusk, it was not overly crowded. I easily found 4 - 5 great vantage points to take in the fountain without having to fight anyone or ruin anyone's photo opp. I lingered here for a while. Stopped to think, stopped to marvel, stopped to throw my coin in, and stopped to have my own photo taken by a kind couple (not always easy to do while solo travelling).
It's majestic. Yes, there are many beautiful fountains in Roma, but Trevi really is set apart for reasons that aren't totally tangible - aside from the obvious face that it's the biggest and most grand. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to visit and hope my coin grants me the chance to return to Rome someday very soon.Helpful 9Thanks 4Love this 12Oh no 0 - Jan 1, 2024
Ah the widely seen and known Trevi Fountains, that's been in every drama and social media...
Finally get to visit it myself (multiple times as its on the way to the Spanish Steps... and is only 7 minute walk from my hotel)
Definitely as grand as you'd believe it to be... but with a TON OF PEOPLE at like all times of the day. I have not seen it any where near empty (except checking on their cam at their like 0200-0300AM local time from home with a 9 hour difference).
I loved how beautiful it is day and night (especially coming from Vegas with our fake one at Caesars, that i now realize how bad it looks)
Its a nice spot to chill with some gelato or a drink or just to relax before continuing your journey to go shopping at the Spanish Steps or waiting for your reservation for dinner.
I came here almost every night just to chill with some gelato and relax after a long trekking day of sightseeing.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 7, 2024
Three coins in the fountain... No trip to Italy is complete without a visit to the iconic Trevi Fountain! Despite fighting the crowds, it was a marvel to see this beautiful fountain up close! We did the classic coin toss, and our family had fun taking selfies and photos! The sculptures were a sight to behold, and we are thrilled to have experienced this wonderful landmark!

From a tourist perspective, this seems almost an obligatory stop on the Rome itinerary. We visited on our first afternoon, actually as our first stop after leaving the hotel. We were there in the early afternoon, probably at or before 1 p.m. on a Sunday. The light was still good for photos, with the façade behind the fountain in full sunlight.
The fountain is located in a small plaza fed by multiple small streets. It opens up with some space on 3 sides of the fountain, with the 4th side bounded by a building full of sculptures from which the water flows. There are also sloped 'stadium' stone seating facing the fountain's pool. When we visited, the seating was almost fully occupied. A lot of people's aim seemed to be to get close to the pool in order do accomplish the traditional toss-a-coin-in thing. It appeared that you had to work your way down there, as there was a continual flow of people seeking to toss coins and take selfies.
It was crowded enough up at the top rim of the seating along the streets. We opted to do our sightseeing and photos from up there and avoid additional crowding. I don't know what crowding is like at other times, or if there is any point where you can come here with less crowding. We didn't return during the remainder of our trip. Another point I'll make is that we were here in a less crowded time of year, so I can only imagine that crowds in July or August are even more impressive.
The fountains are pretty and it is part of the Rome experience to stop by. Just don't expect a leisurely or relaxed visit.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
