I made a recent visit to beautiful Lake Ohrid to walk parts of the Via Egnatia and to see as many of the famous churches and icons as possible. A local guide recommended a visit to one of the least visited but singularly important churches in Macedonia. In the area of Lake Prespa (which sits above Lake Ohrid) is the  Church of St. Georgi (George) in the village of Kurbinovo, not far from the town of Resen.
The frescoes in this church are quite stunning. They were painted in 1191 but may have been restored more recently. If you are in the area go visit. In the meantime enjoy the slideshow!

Your photos are a reminder that I’d love to visit Macedonia someday. I’ve spent a lot of time looking at Cappadocian wall paintings and Roman catacombs, and these are just as important in the history of monumental painting.
Some absolutely amazing frescoes here! Thanks for sharing–I think St George is one of the more interesting saints!
