San Trifone - Adelfia (Bari)

 San Trifone-
 Adelfia (BA)

The cult of St. TRIFONE presumably originated in 1656 following an outbreak of cholera, from which the country remained immune. Indeed in that year the plague struck about a third of our populations. That date is probable and can be confirmed by the documents of parish archives. San TRIFONE, together with St. Rocco, is shown as the protector of the town of Adelaide. The Patronal Feast in honor of San TRIFONE, in-Montrone Adelfia (Ba), is celebrated every year from '1 to' November 11th. There is also an additional day (usually the following Sunday), told by the people adelfiese: "San Trefon 'iinde in ua' 'nnicchie" ("San TRIFONE in the niche") during which we celebrate the laying of the Patron Saint in the niche of St. Nicholas Church (where is placed the statue and the relic). The main days of this wonderful Patron recur 8 to November 11 where thousands of pilgrims flock from all over Italy and the world, to celebrate the event religious and secular. On the 8th of November there is the "Feast of Saint Tryphon": starting from early in the morning, along the main streets wind through hundreds of stalls. During this day you can buy everything, agricultural objects, those for the house, clothes and even farm animals!

On the evening of November 9 Day opens with the launch of the balloon arrival of the painting near the cassarmonica and continues into the night with another on the stage of several concerts of prestigious bands.
From the night of the day November 1 and for all of the following, up to the 8, the sleep of Montronesi is gladdened by the notes produced by tirelessly: "Low music" of Adelaide, better known in the country as "'u TAMMURRE" ("the Drum ") and, particularly, dall'intramontabile" Marcie du ciuccie "(" March of the ass ").

At 4 o'clock the day November 10 is a snap shot (from a mortar diameter 12/13 cm.) Said the "cannon", shot by Tryphon BRUNO jr, devotion to the Holy Father and to remember Cav. Tryphon BRUNO, talented and enterprising fireworks of Adelaide, constantly covered with glory and laurels in various and countless "shoot" made abroad.

Marks the beginning of the main day. Wake up from the "cannon shot" many faithful flock at the church of St. Nicholas to attend the first Mass officiated at approximately 4:30. In the morning at 10 am about beginning the first band concerts. The output from the church of St. Tryphon (around 11.30) is preceded by the "raffle" ie a succession of offers, also very substantial, from citizens and believers in general who want to have the honor of carrying on their shoulders the statue . Meanwhile one of the musical bands that will follow the procession makes its way to the town hall to "escort" the civil authorities to the Mother Church, where St. Tryphon accompany throughout the country and throughout the duration of the procession. Shortly before the entrance of the procession in the historic center, near the arch of the clock, the Mayor delivered the keys to the saint of the country.

in these moments the nearby Market Square children (dressed as Saint Tryphon) that must participate in the procession, accompanied by their parents, they gather; some of them will walk the streets of the country walk more instead of horses harnessed to party. This long and impressive procession, formed also by devotees who sing hymns in honor of St. Tryphon, winds along the streets of Adelaide-MONTRONE. In the early afternoon the people of Adelaide and pilgrims eagerly awaiting the Race Pyrotechnics that lasts about 3 hours.

The barrels, the fireworks are perhaps the most spectacular part of what happens to Adelfia in these hectic days; do not think about shows of pyrotechnics "normal": here the tradition of the masters pyrotechnic sentitissima, here you measure people who have made the art pyrotechnics their lives, alternate "bombs" to "controbombe with cannuoli"; "stutate bombs" to "controbombe with the cross at the center"; the colors and the barrels are phantasmagoric, the square decrees with competence and enthusiasm the best.

And then the music, a music that already from the night of November 1 begins to be felt, with "u tamurre" (drum) that runs through the streets of Adelaide and the "Marcie du ciuccie" (Marcia donkey) which is almost the anthem sound of the event; the music of the bodies bands also runs all routes of Montrone and "marchia" indelibly the unfolding of the festival, accompanying the flight of spectacular and colorful balloons or emphasizing the splendor of the illuminations.

If then it is estimated that the feast of St. Tryphon is also a huge "festival" of 'grilled lamb, which floods with his scent the streets of the town and is an opportunity to taste the new wine, which flows abundant in warm and gladden the hearts, then the picture is complete and we have to say "see you in Adelaide, at St. Tryphon!"
