This week we find Castle and Beckett investigating the death of a young doctor. In the process they uncover a prison break scheme, a sick drug lord, and Taylor Swift concert tickets. Seriously?

The episode opens at a Jewish funeral where the pallbearers fumble with a heavy casket. The coffin tumbles revealing that the dearly departed was not alone. A dead body of a young woman has been stashed inside. Talk about being economical.

Meanwhile Castle is at home when his ex Gina shows up to take Alexis to a spa for mani-pedis and massages. I wouldn’t pass that up either. There is some light flirting and a kiss between the exes. Maybe they are still together. Friends with benefits maybe?

Oh and Alexis and Ashley have a song. Taylor Swift’s Mine. Ugh. So she wants concert tickets. Um have you heard her sing live? Oh, well. The sickeningly sweet lyrics will be the perfect match for Alexis and Ash’s fledgling relationship. Beckett says she and Castle have a song too; You Talk too Much by Clarence Carter.

The victim is a Dr. Valerie Monroe who was killed when a syringe full of air was injected into her carotid artery. Looks like someone gave her 20 ccs of death Castle quips. It was done so skillfully that her fellow doctors are now suspects.

So they go to the county hospital where Castle starts his story spinning with all sorts of sordid tales about the doctors and nurses getting it on and committing a crime of passion. Beckett objects to the fantasy that doctors are notorious for sleeping with each other. But Castle keeps going with his ideas which sound like a plot line from Grey’s Anatomy. Turns out Beckett’s Josh is a doctor, a cardiac surgeon. Castle is grudgingly impressed. He performed surgery that morning that saved someone’s life Beckett gushes. “What did you do this morning Castle?” she asks. “I made waffles/” he replies. One of my favorite pieces of dialogue in the episode.

Turns out Dr. Monroe met with a nurse for a private meeting the day of her death. Castle gets going again with a twisted love triangle conjecture that ends with a catfight to the death. That theory is shot dead when the nurse turns out to be a dude named Greg. They then swap more ‘seriously?’ than you can shake a scalpel at and discover that Greg is popular with the ladies. Another nod to Grey’s when he mentions a doctor named Rhonda Chime- like Shondra Rimes perhaps? Turns out that Valerie left the hospital that evening and met with a mystery man in the ambulance bay.

Back at the precinct they try to determine if Greg is a McSteamy or a McDreamy and connect him with a plethora of nurses and doctors but none seem to have a physical relationship with him. What gives?

Castle gets a surprise when Gina shows up with Taylor Swift tickets and backstage passes for Alexis. He is upset because she has stolen his hero moment and jumps down her throat for it.

Turns out Valerie visited a residence several nights a week the home of drug lord Mr. Calderon. Valerie was his personal physician and it seems they were very close. Calderon is also a big fan of Castle’s and Nikki Fuego. Everything is better in Spanish. I bet it is. He is stunned and crushed at news of her death.

Next Beckett and Castle find the mystery man Valerie left with. He works for the Attorney General and Valerie was working undercover for him to investigate the hospital for drug smuggling and medical fraud. Dead end there. Except he mentions she was onto a smuggling scheme involving the hospital and a women’s prison in Katonah. Castle is all up for a field trip to a woman’s prison.

Castle apologizes to Gina for being such a jerk. Confesses since Alexis has gotten a boyfriend he feels like an outsider and so has Gina.

After some more investigating into the prison they find that Nurse Greg has been making weekly visits there to see his prison inmate girlfriend Amy Porter who he believes has been wrongly imprisoned. They inquire about Amy and find out she had suffered a stroke that morning and was rushed to county hospital. When they get to the hospital they are told she died while having in MRI. But when they look at the body it is not Amy Porter! Forget McDreamy or Mcsteamy, Greg was McSchemy! Turns out it was quite an elaborate plan involving various drugs, signed documents and body swapping. Kind of romantic though.

To try to find them Castle and Beckett go through all the letters the two lovers wrote back and forth. “I love you, “Castle reads to Beckett from one of the letters. There is a telling silence and they both look at each other seriously. State Troopers pick up the two jail breaking love birds at the burger joint where they first met. Greg said he thought Valerie was onto his plan for Amy but he didn’t kill her.

A bracelet missing from Valerie’s corpse leads them back to Calderon. The car used to transport Valerie to the funeral home belongs to him. But it wasn’t Calderon. Turns out it was his brother. He discovered Valerie was working for the Attorney General and was protecting his brother.

Back at Castle’s Alexis is gushing over the concert and backstage passes and thanks Castle since Gina said they were from both of them. So it’s a happy ending for Alexis. What about the others? Castle’s mother says it was romantic and a sign of true love to break your girlfriend out of prison.

Beckett and Castle pull some strings and get Amy’s case re-opened and a probationary sentence for Greg. They even get them some drive-thru from Burgeropolis for the happy couple. Aww. Castle asks Esposito if they were in prison if he would break him out. Nope. Its every man for himself he tells Castle. “Don’t worry Castle,’ Beckett tells him. “ I would get you out.”

Aww as much as I love the cases on Castle (much better than Bones anyway)the main reason I watch is because of Caskett. And wow was that a sweet episode 🙂 First the ‘I Love You’ part (aw.kward) then the bit at the end…you’re right Martha – it’s true love.
