Album: Hello World: The Motown Solo Collection (Special Limited Collector's Edition boxed Set), Michael Jackson
Music: Motown
R&B/Soul: Michael Jackson's career has been glossed over many a time since his passing, with all of his music seemingly venerated by fans. While he undoubtedly created some great music, some of it did vary in quality. The singer you'll be hearing in this collection is different from the same guy you'll have heard belting out his big hits from his adult era.
What is uniform in this set though, is that all of the songs are soulful and catchy, and from a bygone era of the kind of artiste that is one in a million. It already has and will continue to stand the test of time. The songs capture him at a time when he was just a few years away from becoming a global superstar, long after the 'Jackson 5' had disbanded. As for the sound quality, there is a marked improvement. For example the album 'Ben' (originally released in 1972) had a few uneven aspects in terms of sound quality. The title track and the other hit from the LP, Greatest Show On Earth originally could have done with some more polishing up. All of those glitches are now smoothened out though. Take for example his other early album Forever, Michael. That too sounds dated now compared to some of his other early stuff. We're Almost There, for example, sounds like it was recorded in a pal's basement. What you now get here is definitely an improvement from the original CD release. You also get a small hardcover in the package nicely penned by a writer who clearly knows his music. All of these factors make this a good collection addition to Jackson archivists.
