This lovely Scottish Victorian woodland landscape oil painting is by noted Scottish artist John Reid. Painted and exhibited in 1880 at the Royal Scottish Academy, the location is Morden or Moredun Wood in Edinburgh. A number of pheasants plus two rabbits are pictured in a beautiful dense beech and silver birch woodland. A really lovely painting with fantastic detail and light. Signed lower right. Provenance. Exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, 1880 no. 1091 entitled In Morden Wood Condition. Oil on canvas 27 inches by 20 inches and in good condition. Frame. Housed in an ornate gilt frame, 35 inches by 28 inches framed and in good condition. John Reid (fl. 1879-82) was an Edinburgh based painter in oils and watercolour of landscapes and topographical subjects. He exhibited 6 paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy.
