THE HAWK is a fine hand printed impression printed in warm tones of opaque light peach, opaque rose, pink brown, light brown, beige, white, and black. Superb quality handmade lithograph by the masterful artist, Aldo Luongo. Edition Size - 200 Print size - 23.25 x 33.5 inches, unframed, hand signed by Aldo Luongo with personal dedication, Printers Proof from the master printers private collection Year published - 1974 Publisher - Circle Gallery NY ARTIST BIO: For the past 25 years, Romantic impressionist Aldo Luongo has won critical acclaim from around the globe for his unique ability to express love, passion and sport in a brilliant and distinctive Post-Impressionist style. Says Luongo, "I attack a canvas like I play soccer - with vigor. Soccer is my counterpoint to painting. While painting, I'm confined, lonely, enmeshed in emotions and self-doubt. Then comes the sweat and focus of a really good game and I feel whole again. Life is a matter of balance." For Luongo's unique approach and style in his artistic endeavors, he was selected as the American Sport Art Museum and Archives' 1999 Sport Artist of the Year. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Luongo was an official artist of the 1980 and 1996 Olympic Games in the United States. He has a passion for life that is evident in his work and the way he lives. The "romantic impressionist" painter uses the canvas to capture little pieces of ordinary life. He mostly paints the human figure, capturing people in their natural surroundings and in everyday situations. He has also painted many works of athletes in competition, in sports from basketball to soccer to track and field. In a unique fashion found only in Luongo, he captures the athletes in motion in their sport. Though Luongo is considered one of the world's great contemporary artists, his path has not been narrow and direct. He entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Argentina at fourteen, but his childhood dream was to follow in his father's footsteps as a professional soccer player. This dream was actually fulfilled when he played for the New York Cosmos. His career was cut short, however, due to injury. Luongo finally settled in and started painting full time in 1968. He created 30 paintings, an extraordinary number, that year. Since then, he has become widely accepted and critically admired. He has twice been chosen to paint eggs for the White House Easter egg hunt, which are now a part of the Smithsonian collection. Aldo Luongo and his art evoke true emotion with every canvas. He describes his work as possessing strength, vibrancy, and feeling. For him the real journey is told by Aldo's most recognizable image, Aguilucho or The Hawk, a self portrait of the artist, himself, with the character of the ultimate old man, "my future self." The Hawk is a personage who has evolved through time and was designed as a homage to his father. In each of his paintings, The Hawk is a symbol of a spiritually rich life. He was never meant to resemble Luongo's father physically but to personify his spirit. The Hawk as described the artist, has only ten or 15 minutes left on the clock of life but continues to live life the fullest. People have responded so positively to The Hawk that Luongo has had numerous requests for commissions from people who would like their future self painted with The Hawk. Interestingly, The Hawk was not originally painted to be shown, but more as a personal project. However, a delivery man, while picking up paintings from the studio, mistakenly included the first Hawk portrait in the load. Before Luongo noticed it missing, the original was sold, beginning a theme and character that the world has grown to love. Biography from American Sport Art Museum and Archives.

William Steen Untitled, from the Art Against AIDS Portfolio, 1988 Lithograph on paper with deckled edges Hand signed, numbered 38/50 and dated on lower front with printer's and publisher's blindstamp. 20 1/5 × 15 inches Unframed Hand signed, numbered and dated on lower front with printer's and publisher's blindstamp. This powerful limited edition lithograph by William Steen was published in 1988 as part of the Art Against Aids portfolio, numbered 38/50. Superb provenance as it is was acquired from the original Art Against AIDS Portfolio published in Houston, Texas. This will be the first time the work will be removed from the portfolio. The late 1980s was the height of the AIDS epidemic, and this was one of many efforts by the creative community to raise funds to assist in fighting this deadly scourge that disproportionately affected the artistic community. William Steen 1949-2008 William Steen, artist, collector, curator, and mystic, died of pancreatic cancer on December 20 in New York, where he has lived since 2001. Long time framer at the Menil Collection, the soft-spoken Steen is remembered in Houston where he had his first exhibition of paintings in 1978 at the Roberto Molina Gallery. In 1984 Steen made his first of several trips to India, photographing thousands of Tibetan Buddhist ritual paintings. A champion of outsider art, in 2000 he tangled with the Houston Police over the grafitti mural he comissioned for the walls of the reclaimed Sterling Cleaners...

  • Lithograph Print Pattern & Decoration Art Honor Father & Mother Robert Kushner
    By Robert Kushner
    Located in Surfside, FL
Robert Ellis Kushner (American, b.1949). 44/84 Lithograph on paper titled " Honor thy Mother and Father"; Depicting a husband and wife (I have seen this print described as a screenprint and as a lithograph) Hand signed in pencil and dated alongside an embossed pictorial blindstamp of a closed hand with one raised index finger. Solo Press. From The Ten Commandments Kenny Scharf; Joseph Nechvatal; Gretchen Bender; April Gornik; Robert Kushner; Nancy Spero; Vito Acconci; Jane Dickson; Judy Rifka; Richard Bosman and Lisa Liebmann. Robert Kushner, born in 1949, in California, lives in New York, and is a painter and sculptor. He gained attention in the early seventies as a performance artist, using food, fabric and nudity. Kushner was associated with the Pattern and Decoration movement and used fabric collage in large-scale, bold paintings of the figure. Since 1987 he has used flowers as the subject of his paintings, more recently adding a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables to his repertoire. Kushner's use of rich color harmonies and bold, fluid drawing, mark his belief in the importance of beauty in our lives. Kushner draws from a unique range of influences, including Islamic and European textiles, Henri Matisse, Georgia O'Keeffe, Charles Demuth, Pierre Bonnard, Tawaraya Sotatsu, Ito Jakuchu, Qi Baishi, and Wu Changshuo. Kushner’s work combines organic representational elements with abstracted geometric forms in a way that is both decorative and modernist. Kushner has collaborated with Master printer Bud Shark since 1982 on various monotypes and lithographs. These exuberant, sensuous prints often include collage elements, including glitter, chine-collé, metal leaf and hand coloring. Kushner's work has been exhibited extensively in the United States, Europe, and Japan and has been included in the Whitney Biennial three times and twice at the Venice Biennale in Italy. He was the subject of solo exhibitions at both the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Brooklyn Museum. A mid-career retrospective of his work was organized by the Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art. He was one of the original painters of the Pattern and Decoration movements of the 1970s. (along with Cynthia Carlson, Brad Davis, Mary Grigoriadis, Joyce Kozloff, Robert Kushner, Kim MacConnel, Sonya Rapoport, Miriam Schapiro and Valerie Jaudon) The group began exhibiting together in 1976 in "Ten Approaches to the Decorative" at the Alessandra Gallery in New York, followed by "Pattern Painting" in 1977 at PS1 in Long Island City, Queens. Subsequently, over fifty group exhibitions featuring the founding artists were held in museums and galleries in Europe and the U.S. including the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebaek, Denmark, the Neue Galerie, in Aachen, Germany, the Pori Art Museum, the Mayor Gallery in London, Modern Art Oxford, and the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, New York.Robert Kushner's prints include a lithograph with gold leaf titled White Lilac and a series of monotypes that include Blue Bells II, Geranium IV, and Oregon Grape III. Robert Kushner lives in New York and has completed several major public commissions. He has exhibited his work widely and is represented in the collections of The Brooklyn Museum, Los Angeles County Museum, The Metropolitan Museum, NY, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Tate Gallery, London, The Whitney Museum, NY and others. In 1997 Hudson Hills Press published the monograph, Robert Kushner: Gardens of Earthly Delight by Alexandra Anderson-Spivey. The New Jersey Center for Visual Arts mounted the survey exhibition Robert Kushner: 25 Years of Making Art in 1998. Kushner's work is represented in numerous important public collections: Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY Art Collection of the United States Embassy, Panama Australian National Gallery, Canberra, Australia The Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore, MD Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick, ME The Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, NY California Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco, CA Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA The Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, OH The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, HI The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC Galleria degli Ufizzi, Florence, Italy Gröninger Museum, Gröningen, the Netherlands Honolulu Academy of Arts, Honolulu, Hawaii J.
