Product Description

From Pantelion Films and Lionsgate. Grace (Eva Mendes) is a single mom. She is too busy juggling work, bills, and the very married Dr. Hartford (Matthew Modine), to give her daughter, Ansiedad (Cierra Ramirez) the attention she desperately needs. When Ansiedad's English teacher, Ms. Armstrong (Patricia Arquette), introduces her students to classic coming-of-age stories, Ansiedad is inspired to skip adolescence and jump-start her life without mom. While Grace becomes preoccupied with the increasing affections of her co-worker (Eugenio Derbez), Ansiedad enlists the help of her loyal friend, Tavita (Raini Rodriguez), to plot her shortcut to 'adulthood'. But as her misguided plan unravels, Ansiedad and Grace must learn that sometimes growing-up means acting your age.

I really enjoyed "Girl In Progress". Eva Mendes is an amazing actress (as usual) and plays a strong single mom very well. I hadn't seen Cierra Ramirez in any anything before, but also thought her performance was excellent. She plays an out of control, frustrated, angry, but hurt teen desperately looking for attention, trying to figure out who she is and what she stands for, meanwhile she has an equally of of control mother who doesn't quite have her life together, and her priorities are all wrong, but at the end of the day -- she would do anything for her daughter. Anything. As a single mom myself (just not so wild and crazy) I can truly appreciate some of the tear-jerking moments they shared, and can tell you how genuine and realistic they were. As Cierra is running away from her crying and yelling, "Leave me alone, and "Go away". I have heard those exact gut wrenching words before- verbatim, and they are just as gut wrenching as they sound. Very touching coming-of-age story (quite literally), but with a happy ending. I will be watching again soon and recommending to friends.

Girl in Progress starring Eva Mendes and newcomer Cierra Ramirez is a really sweet and thoughtful film. I was never a big fan of Eva Mendes before I saw this indie flick. Mendes is pretty to look at, but her acting for me was never very strong. But I must admit, Mendes is extraordinary and fearless in Girl in Progress. Mendes plays Grace, a single mother who's young daughter decides to make me her own "coming-of-age" adventure to try and frazzle her absentee mom. Grace is a mess emotionally, she is having an affair with a married doctor, she's working 2 meaningless jobs, and she can't afford to pay for her daughter's private school tuition. Her daughter, Ann is young and precocious, she feels like her mom never pays attention to her which is sad but true. Ann is smart but she is neglected, her mom refuses to act her age and Ann wants to grow up too fast. Girl in Progress is a real and honest film, I thought the ending was satisfying and made me tear up a little. I highly recommend this underrated gem, enjoy! Kudos to Eva Mendes for getting out of her comfort zone!

In the past I was only in to certain dramas. But lately, I have built a love for other types.

This is a lovely story about a girl who has to grow up on her own. Where a mother is usually there to nudge her in the right direction, she had to learn on her own.

It's a wonderful story that is worth watching. And it does have a happy ending...

So I gave this four stars instead of 5 because there are pieces of the movie where Eva Mendez's acting rubbed me the wrong way. I just kept watching and realized there are a lot of layers to this story. From my perspective the "Girl in Progress" is both the young girl and her mother. I appreciate the happy ending, because for me it gave me the opportunity to feel good afterward. Nowadays movies are trying so hard to reflect real life that you can often leave them feeling so heavy that you want to walk right out of the theater and into therapy. It's OK to feel good at the end of a realistic story, just let it happen. This is a good story and worth the watch.

The movie describes well about both mother and daughter's side of single parent household. I really liked how they overcome/realized the base issues and the movie showed the process what both sides go through which many families go through the similar situation. It made me feel I am not alone as I am also a single parent of teen girl. I loved it.

Eva is a fine actress. Her and the younger actress were phenomenal.

I am disappointed that Eva is not making movies anymore, I actually enjoyed all of them.

I hope Ryan appreciates what Eva has given up to care for their children. Maybe some movies didnt make as much money, so? It happens to best of them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eine gute Coming-of-Age-Geschichte - mit misslungener deutschen Synchronisation...
Reviewed in Germany on September 15, 2018
Story (2)
Soweit so gut.
