THE EXEMPLARY GRAND TOURER

The Aston Martin DB11 now on sale at Aston Martin Chicago.

It's the ultimate in British motoring craftsmanship. The Aston Martin DB11 results from years of refinement from a legendary brand that was so good that it was the vehicle of choice for a certain British spy. Best of all, the new Aston Martin DB11 is on sale today at Aston Martin Chicago.

What is an Aston Martin DB11?

The Aston Martin is a 2+2 sports supercar that is offered as both a coupe and convertible known as the DB11 Volante. It is powered by a buyer's choice of 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 503 horsepower and 513 lb-ft of torque. Another engine option is the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12, which is part of the AMR racing package and makes 630 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that shifts so quickly that it feels like a dual-clutch transmission. The transmission is shifted by steering-wheel-mounted paddle-shift levers so you can channel your inner Aston Martin Formula 1 pilot.

The DB in the Aston Martin model name stands for David Brown, who purchased the company in 1947. Brown was a successful engineer and entrepreneur, and through his family's transmission company, built tractors through the David Brown Tractor company. But in addition to engineering, he was a keen racing enthusiast.

In 1946, he saw a newspaper advertisement announcing the sale of a prominent motorcar company. It was all the shove he needed and according to stories at the time, he purchased it for $20,500 or so. Frequently referred to as the savior of the Aston Martin company, he built it into a legendary British brand. His time of ownership became known as the DB years.

The DB11 Volante completes the family; offering an equally stunning, open-topped GT experience.

How does the DB11 look?

The Aston Martin DB11 features a tastefully-designed, if evolved, example of the legacy grille that has been on Aston Martin vehicles since 1947. Flowing rooflines and elegantly formed front fenders are crafted for maximum aerodynamic benefit while at speed. Made of aircraft-grade bonded aluminum, it's as close as a car can come to being an airplane for the road.

Sinister LED headlamps take on an anthropomorphic appearance, while side vents offer a performance appearance that looks correct for this type of vehicle. An elegant rear-end finishes this Aston off with a pair of chromed exhaust finishers sticking through the lower valance to the rear diffuser.
The Aston Martin is not overdone nor undone.

What's standard on the DB11?

Standard on this Aston DB11 are an 8-inch infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera system and parking sensors, front and rear. Staggered-size 20-inch wheels keep this monster pressed to the pavement. The convertible Volante model is enhanced with wood or carbon fiber coverings on the seatbacks and a choice of red, silver or black soft-top roof.

What about inside the DB11?

Made up of the finest materials possible, including top-grade leather, the cockpit of the Aston Martin DB11 is one that thrills on so many levels. The interior can be customized according to an owner's tastes and desires. The front buckets fit perfectly for most body types, and although the rear seats are best suited for small children, we find they serve better as a supplemental storage area to the 9.5-cubic foot trunk.

Behind the wheel of the DB11

As a grand touring machine, the Aston Martin DB11 excels and manages to outperform the competition thanks to features like an ultra-quiet cabin and adaptive dampers that help smooth out the road regardless of the surface. The quick-ratio steering allows you to place the DB11 where you want it.

From a power standpoint, the DB11 AMR with the turbocharged 12-cylinder engine will eclipse a 0-60 mph jaunt in less than four seconds. If your nerves and wits are about you, keep your foot planted to see the speedometer tick off 208 mph. We find the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 almost equal in its capabilities, thanks to that package's lighter weight.
