Pliny the Elder is brewed with Amarillo, Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe hops. It is well-balanced with malt, hops, and alcohol, slightly bitter with a fresh hop aroma of floral, citrus, and pine. Best enjoyed FRESH! That is why we make it in such limited supply. Actual bottling date is printed on each bottle!

From tap into a nonic pint glass in a bar in San Diego
Look: Apple-juice clear yellow with 1 finger of white head with great retention.
Smell: Hops plus citrus
Taste: Follows the nose. A delicious combination of citrus notes plus mild bitterness of hops. There is no question why this beer is consistently labeled as one of the best double IPAs ever. There is no bitter aftertaste at all.
Feel: Moderate carbonation and full-bodied.
Overall: I feel very lucky to have experienced this beer on tap. As someone who lives on the East Coast, it is a rare experience to be able to have a beer from Russian River Brewing, and this beer certainly lives up to the hype of being a perfect West Coast double IPA.

This beer is exactly what a double IPA should be. Exceptionally smooth for a double as well. Great clear color.

I'm not an IPA guy, but this was pretty good.

Nice color, aroma of citrus, hoppy flavor with nice malt finish intermingled with bitterness. Great beer. Lighter than I expected in both color and flavor for an imperial IPA.

Pours clear honey gold with a thick white head that leaves generous lacing as it slowly fades. Aroma is bold, fresh citrus and tropical fruit with some pine. Flavor follows the nose, slightly sweet fruit up front with a real punch of bitterness in the finish. Feel is light bodied with ample carbonation. Overall, a real fine beer.

World class, poured from the bottle into a plastic hotel room cup in San Jose. Paired with In-N-Out DD. Wonderful.
