Viva Las Vegas! While Sin City might just be the wedding capital of the world, it also makes for a pretty wonderful honeymoon destination

“There are so many things you can do here!” says local elopement and proposal planner Coralie Baulard. “If you like nature, there are many parks. Prefer partying? We have some of the most amazing clubs in the world. Let your feet forgive you for all the miles walked at a spa, and taste new flavors at some of the best restaurants in the world.”

Meet the Expert

Coralie Baulard is a founder and owner of Pretty Day, a Las Vegas elopement and proposal planning company. Pretty Day marries approximately 400 couples each year.

With such an abundance of options, it might be tough to decide how to spend your time, so consider this your personal jumpstart. Here is everything you need to know about planning the perfect Las Vegas honeymoon, including the best things to do in Las Vegas, where to stay, what to eat, plus tips for planning your trip and the best times of year to visit.

Planning Your Las Vegas Honeymoon

There are a few things Baulard suggests you do as you plan your honeymoon in Las Vegas. Firstly, try to avoid weekends, if possible. "Hotel prices double most of the time,” she explains. Next, you'll want to book your restaurant reservations and any activities well in advance. "Vegas is a busy city,” says Baulard. “The sooner you make sure you’re all set, the better things will be.” And lastly, Baulard encourages couples to venture outside the Strip for at least part of the trip. For example, Nevada’s second-largest city, Henderson, is just a 20-minute drive away and filled with must-try restaurants.

  • Language: English
  • Currency: U.S. Dollar
  • When to Go: “April/May and September/October are definitely the best months to visit Las Vegas because it gets super hot during summer,” says Baulard. “But remember, as they are the best months to visit the city, they’re also the busiest.”
  • Getting There: International and U.S. travelers can fly into Harry Reid International Airport (about five miles from Downtown Las Vegas).
  • Transportation: Taxis, Uber, and Lyft are all widely available in Las Vegas, and there is a 24-hour regional bus and the Monorail which operates along the Strip. Parts of Las Vegas are walkable, too.
  • Must-Pack: Sunscreen, sunglasses, seasonally-appropriate clothing, light layers, going-out clothing, walking shoes, and swimsuits.

Places to Stay in Las Vegas

It might feel overwhelming when you sit down to decide which hotel(s) to book for your Las Vegas honeymoon—there are a lot! Try thinking about what you want to prioritize during the trip. If you want to be close to the Strip, that will help you narrow down options—alternatively, if you'd rather be a little further from town (and away from the hustle and bustle), that will make your decision a lot easier. From luxury in-casino resorts to smaller off-the-beaten-path boutique hotels, there are accommodations for every type of honeymooner in Las Vegas. Here are a few of our favorites:

Bellagio Las Vegas

Fine dining, shopping, a spa, and plenty of entertainment: Bellagio truly has it all, and then some. Honeymooners can look forward to everything at their fingertips, including private cabanas by the on-site pool, cashmere pillow-top mattresses in guest rooms, multiple fine dining restaurants, on-site botanical gardens, and a fine art gallery in the complex.

Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas

Slightly quieter than some of the other hotels on the Strip, the Waldorf Astoria epitomizes elegance and is a great option for honeymooners who don't want to stay in a hotel attached to a casino. The notable luxury spa makes it an excellent choice for those who want to indulge in some wellness experiences (book the Dragon spa suites for couples, which includes a full-body exfoliation, hydrotherapy botanical bath, and an aromatherapy massage), and the on-site afternoon tea is a must.

Caesars Palace

It's all happening at this 85-acre resort and true Vegas icon. Foodies should consider booking accommodations here, as it puts guests among some of the city's best restaurants, like Restaurant Guy Savoy, Amalfi by Bobby FlayGordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen, and Nobu Las Vegas. Aside from that, there are so many things to do at Caesars, from indulgent spa days and luxury shopping to seeing world-class entertainment at the Colosseum.

Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa

Located away from the Strip, Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa is perfect for those who want to be more off the beaten path with proximity to the outdoors. Multiple pools, an on-site bowling alley, and a 16-screen cinema mean there is never a dull moment at this resort, and those who are a little more outdoorsy will delight in the proximity to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Pro tip: Book a villa suite to enjoy a private pool and patio.

Things to Do During Your Las Vegas Honeymoon

From hot air balloon rides to unforgettable restaurants (and sinfully delicious desserts!), these are the best activities ideas for couples in Las Vegas.

See a Water Show

Vegas first-timers can’t miss the bucket-list-worthy Bellagio Water Show. Evocative of great city fountains in romance capitals such as Madrid and Rome, the spectacle involves more than a thousand water streams shooting up to 460 feet in the air in a coordinated dance to music and lights. Running every 15 to 30 minutes most afternoons and evenings, it's the perfect over-the-top way to kick off your over-the-top Las Vegas honeymoon.

Unwind at a Spa

The largest day spa in North America is the Canyon Ranch Spa at The Venetian, and wellness-minded couples will want to devote a full day to exploring every corner of the 134,000-square-foot space. Get your heart rates up by first hitting the rock wall or taking a drop-in fitness class, then cycle through the experiential rooms (options include a wave room and meditation pods) before linking back up for a romantic couples massage.

Indulge in a Signature Dish

Your honeymoon is nothing if not an occasion to treat yourselves, so go on, spring for that extra dish you wouldn’t normally order. (You deserve it after sticking to that intense wedding workout plan!) Three delectable suggestions that just-so-happen to be totally Vegas-famous include the caviar parfait at Michael Mina, the banana cream pie at Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House, and the 24-layer chocolate cake at Strip House (pictured).

See Unforgettable Art

Ten miles south of downtown Las Vegas, Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone erected Seven Magic Mountains, a set of technicolor boulder stacks that sit 30 feet high. Set against the backdrop of the Nevada desert, the art installation is a striking commentary on the interaction of the artificial and the natural and is sure to provoke interesting conversations for creative couples.

Eat Sushi by a Waterfall

There’s no shortage of romantic restaurants in Vegas. Many lean French, Italian, or classic steakhouse, but there’s also something sensual about sushi and sashimi. At Mizumi, you can sip Yuzu highballs at the floating pagoda table, which is situated at the end of a long dock underneath a 90-foot-waterfall.

Ride in a Gondola

Is it a little cheesy? Sure. But who cares?! While it might not be Italy, the indoor and outdoor gondola rides at The Venetian could just be the next best thing. Cozy up with your boo in the back of the boat and give in fully to the experience, singing gondolier and all.

Go Stargazing

Situated just west of the city, Mount Charleston is the highest mountain in Clarke County. “Drive far from the light pollution of the city and look at the stars!” suggests Baulard.

Take a Helicopter Tour

Because the best way to see the bright lights of Las Vegas is from above, consider splurging on a private helicopter tour of the city. Companies like Maverick Helicopter can make that dream a reality, and can also fly you directly from the Las Vegas Strip Terminal to the Grand Canyon and back, just in time for the magic of nightfall. Talk about an amazing two-for-one!

Ride in a Hot Air Balloon

Another once-in-a-lifetime way to get up in the air, a private hot air balloon ride feels straight out of the happy ending of a rom-com—and thus totally honeymoon-worthy. For an amorous experience, book the VIP Private Sunrise Flight package with Vegas Balloon Rides, which includes champagne and a limousine pickup.

Hit the Ferris Wheel

The High Roller Las Vegas Strip Observation Wheel spins 550 feet above the Strip. Pretend you’re teenagers again—or, you know, Marissa and Ryan from The O.C.—and steal a kiss when you hit the top.

Catch a Movie

The most retro of all date ideas might just be the drive-in movie theater. For a hit of that special kind of old-school romance, head to The West Wind Las Vegas Drive-In, where, in addition to catching a new release, you can also flirt over arcade games.

Can't-Miss Experience: For honeymooners, the best view of the fountains is from a corner table for two at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant, which sits 100 feet above the ground inside the Strip’s faux Eiffel Tower.

What to Eat During Your Las Vegas Honeymoon

Honeymooners will have no shortage of options for romantic date night dinners. In recent years, Vegas has seen dozens of top-tier restaurants crop up, from spots with multi-course tasting menus to top-floor restaurants with jaw-dropping skyline views. Here are a few of our favorites.

Marché Bacchus

Located 10 minutes from the Strip, this white-tablecloth French restaurant boasts not only a delicious menu of French cuisine, but also offers diners stunning lakeside views.

Barry’s Downtown Prime

A classic steakhouse with vintage glamour vibes, Barry’s Downtown Prime features a moody, atmospheric interior and a menu of fine steak, seafood, and delicious craft cocktails. (Pro tip: Secure a table next to one of the indoor olive trees).

Top of the World

It’s all in the name: Top of the World (located at the Strat hotel and casino) puts diners high atop the city with breathtaking views of the Las Vegas Valley—and it revolves 360 degrees every 80 minutes. It’s worth noting that the restaurant has received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 24 years in a row—so go for the views, stay for the wine list.

Delilah

Known for being a modern-day supper club, Delilah (located at the Wynn Las Vegas) is inspired by early showrooms of 1950s Las Vegas. Guests can dine on an eclectic menu while enjoying live music (everything from upbeat DJs to Sunday Night Jazz).
