Description

"The original Porsche 911 was introduced in Autumn 1963 and manufactured until 1989. It was succeeded by a modified version, internally referred to as Porsche 964, but still sold as Porsche 911, as are current models. Mechanically, the 911 was notable for being rear engine and air cooled and, from its inception, the 911 was modified both by private teams and the factory itself for racing, rallying and other types of competition. The original 911 series is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, especially when its variations are included; namely the powerful 911 derived 935 which won the 24 Hours Le Mans and other major sports car races outright against prototypes. The 911T was the first Porsche to receive the new Bosch K-Jetronic or CIS engine (Continuous Injection System) from January 1973 onwards. Often referred to as 1973 1/2, these T models produced 140bhp and also boasted the newer type standard H pattern (915) gearbox which, in tandem, provided a smooth yet powerful engine and proved great fun to drive.
This stunning left hand drive, matching numbers, 1970 Porsche 911T coupé was originally registered to a Mr Herr of Collinsville, Illinois. From the original service booklet found in a lovely history file, it appears the car was then sold to Mr Hew in 1976 who resided in neighbouring Springfield, where the car remained through the late 70's and 80's, presumably with Mr Hew, before changing hands again. More recently, in August 2013, this 911T was purchased by our vendor from Wilson Motor Company in Washington and, due to his line of work, the car was shipped over to the U.A.E. The fact that this 911T had been upgraded to run on Weber carburettors sealed the deal for our vendor as it effectively sidestepped the usual negative with federal specification cars being low on power. Whilst in the U.A.E the owner maintained and recommissioned the car for his personal use and invoices from Deutsche Technik in Dubai, amongst others, are contained within the history file together with invoices for new brakes and new dampers.
In June 2015 the vendor decided to ship the car back to his UK residence in Berkshire, partly to utilise the experience of British Porsche specialists AutoFarm. A full inspection and major service followed and, clearly, no expense was spared in the preparation; £4,785 was spent with AutoFarm ensuring that the car was absolutely on the button and ready to enjoy. The vendor was so pleased with his 911T that he decided to show the car at the Pangbourne Classic Car Show 2016. This 911T is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT valid until September 2018 and a substantial history file containing all the invoices and inspection reports, original Owner's Manual and service booklet together with provenance from the 1970's and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. A desirable early numbers matching Porsche 911, fabulously presented."
