Get out your conspiracy theory board and red string because we have a new Taylor Swift clue to decipher. At least, we do as long as the shape seen projected on the ceiling during the Houston stretch of her Eras Tour was intentional and not just a lighting fluke. The lighting fluke theory is valid, but because it’s Taylor Swift we’re talking about, so is the “OMG THIS IS DEFINITELY AN INTENTIONAL EASTER EGG ABOUT SOMETHING” theory.
So back to the new clue: Some fans at Taylor’s Saturday night (April 22) show at NRG Stadium in Houston noticed what seemed to be an enormous number 3 projected on the ceiling just before the surprise songs acoustic set. TikTok user @audballers brought attention to the mysterious projection in a video that was also shared/debated on Twitter.
And yeah, it definitely looks like a giant 3:
Remember the lighting fluke theory though? Several commenters (on both TikTok and Twitter) argued that the 3 wasn’t really a 3 at all and that what we’re seeing in the clips is really just the shape the lights of the stage happen to make. FWIW, though, @audballers saw those comments and respectfully disagrees—as she explained in a follow-up video on TikTok.
According to @audballers, the lighting fluke theory is a no-go because during Taylor’s performance of “Don’t Blame Me” earlier in the show, all the lights go up on the stage, and the shape on the ceiling then (which she looked at but didn’t film because it wasn’t something that looked like an obvious clue from Taylor) was a rectangle.
“So they would have to do something specifically with the lights and the angles to make the 3. They would have to change it from the shape of the stage to make that 3, that’s why I think it was purposeful,” she explained, noting that the color of the 3 (a blueish purple) also seemed significant because dark purple is the color associated with Speak Now, which is Taylor’s third album. Add all of this to the fact that Speak Now is already widely expected to be the next rerecorded album Taylor will release in her quest to reclaim ownership of her masters, and it’s not surprising that most fans who believe it’s an intentional clue also believe that clue has something to do with Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
While @audballers listed Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) coming soon as the most likely meaning behind the ceiling 3, she also suggested Taylor could be “hinting [at a] ‘Karma’ music video or she’s hinting at a date.”
At least one Twitter user went even further down the Taylor Swift Easter egg rabbit hole and theorized that the ceiling 3, along with potential hidden meanings behind the surprise songs Taylor played right after it was projected, points to a big announcement or release Sunday night during or after her final show in Houston.
Which, yes please, let ^^that^^ be true and accurate.
