LED Spreader Light Recommendations

Looking at adding LED spreader lights to our mizzen mast and see lots of options. Would like recommendations on quality lights. Mainly want to light up the aft deck so I can see what Im grilling lol. Mizzen spreaders are probably 15' off the deck so I dont need lights that are going to give me sun burn. Thanks

Ridiculously bright and draws ~1.5 amps at 12 volts - out of all the things i've upgraded and added, it's probably the thing that gets the most 'I should get one of those' at the dock

18 W is a lot, it's not "too" much? I'm guessing that is about as bright as an outdoor flood light for a house?
I wonder if you could dim these things, that would be ideal?

You can get truck tail lights, the reversing light is white. Its bright enough for us, and, at $15.00 odd not a train smash if you don't like them. Normally I use them if I'm trying to fix something in the dark, or work out what the rattling noise is - then the more light the better. If I need less light, for instance just puttering around at night on deck tidying, then I'll use my foredeck light.

Manufacturer claims much brighter than 100W incandescent. Not so much - but I think at the height of spreaders, that would be a minimum I'd want.

How many lumens is a 100 watt light bulb?
To replace a 100-watt incandescent bulb, look for a bulb that gives you about 1600 lumens. If you want something dimmer, go for less lumens; if you prefer brighter light, look for more lumens. Replace a 75W bulb with an LED bulb that gives you about 1100 lumens.

My math tells me that they must have had a 75W in mind...

Did I not recently see on this forum a posting, from someone telling us they used an LED underwater flood light they found in a store catering to pond owners? Apparently sells for very few $$'s

I use LED lights made for 4x4 off road use. We have two powerful jobs on the spreaders that are looking forward and slightly downwards for creeping into bommie strewn area's after dark as well as LED tube lights, in yellow in the cockpit.

I have built a couple of spreader lights from waterproof LED strip, cool white. The originals were stuck (sticky back) directly on to the spreader and after 5 years had issues with leaking current. The present set are glued to poly-carbonate strips and have separate ,port, stbd circuits.
The led strips come in 5 meter rolls and with 300 led's at around $20 a roll.
You have the ability to cut them ( minimum 3 LED's) to your choice.
My choice is 150 led's a side and at around 40 watts each supply enough light to illuminate up to 20 meters around the boat.
They are dimmable with resistors in the circuit. Their length gives them a minimum shadowing effect and they are unobtrusive.

If the request for a quality light means reliable and long lasting, then I've installed a pair of good ones, but they are inexpensive $13 12vdc automotive "back-up" lights on eBay about ten years ago.....

Anyone ever mount a Red set, so that you still keep most of you night vision, after sorting out a mess on the foredeck?
The red ones being in addition to some white ones, on a different switch

+1 for the LED backup lights. I mounted a pair on our mast, 700 lumens each, 2 watts power, IP68 rated and a 10 year warranty!!! Oh and they were only $40 for the set. Works perfectly and plenty of light from our spreader at 22 ft.
