Ex-Skins star Mitch Hewer will be joining Casualty in a recurring guest role as Mickey Ellisson.

Mitch is best remembered for starring in the first and second series of E4 show Skins, where he played Maxxie Oliver.

Mickey will be joining the Ellisson family, who were previously introduced back in 2015 for a huge storyline that culminated in show regular Jacob Masters being shot. Roy and Denise Ellisson were the leaders of a far-right organisation which came under attack by a Muslim extremists group.

Speaking about the role, Mitch said: "I'm having such a wonderful time filming Casualty. I'm very excited for people to meet Mickey and for them to feel the difficulties that he endures in his life. I'm ever so grateful for this opportunity; it really has been a fantastic experience."

Casualty's executive producer Simon Harper added: "I'm delighted to welcome such a high-profile and gifted young actor as Mitch to the Casualty family and very excited about his story.

"We met Mickey's parents in 2015, but don't judge a book by its cover. Mickey isn't necessarily cut from the same cloth in his dealings with the Casualty regulars and there will be absolutely explosive consequences."

Casualty producer Erika Hossington first teased the reappearance of the Ellisons during an interview with Digital Spy earlier this year.

She said: "There was an episode that went out at the end of 2015 in series 30 where Jacob was shot. It was an individual episode that featured a family and we are bringing that family back in this series. This has come from the fan reaction to that story initially.

"That was a really important episode for us because it examined race and that was something else that we wanted to bring into the frame this year in terms of the way the UK has gone. That family is coming back – and this can only mean bad things for the ED."

Mickey will be seen on screen from April.

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One.
