The word Eid is an Egyptian name that means a festivity, a celebration, a recurring happiness, and a feast. In Islam, there are two major Eids namely "Eid al-Fitr" (Festival of Breaking the Fast) celebrating the end of Ramadan and "Eid al-Adha" (Festival of Sacrifice) which coincides with the Hajj and commemorates prophet Abrahams sacrifice of a sheep in place of prophet Ishmael.
Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by Egyptians after fasting the month of Ramadan as a matter of thanks and gratitude to Almighty Allah. The Eid day starts with a small snack followed by Eid Prayers (Salat al-Eid) in congregation attended by men, women and children. Afterwards neighbors, friends and relatives start greeting each other. The most common greeting is "Eid Mubarak" (Have a blessed Eid). Children are normally given gifts, which traditionally are new clothes to wear throughout the Eid. Also, People commonly given special gifts by their loved ones.
FASTING IN DHUL HIJJAH
Fasting on the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah is highly recommended, and is an act that the Prophet (saw) partook in and encouraged others to do as well. The most important day for fasting during Dhul Hijjah comes on the 9th day, the day of Arafah, where 2 years’ worth of sins will be forgiven in light of fasting.
“Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year.”
Even though none of us is able to make the holy pilgrimage of Hajj this year, there are still many things we can do to make the most of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah!!!

The Doum Palm was considered a sacred tree, and symbolised of male strength and virility. In fact, the fruit of this tree was of such importance that eight baskets full of dried doum fruit were discovered in Tutankhamum’s tomb, left to provide him with sustenance in the afterlife.
