ESPN makes genuinely laugh-out-loud gaffe on its odds board for the American Express

With 19 PGA Tour wins including a U.S. Open to his name, plus a pair of Vardon trophies and a PGA Tour Player of the Year award, Tom Kite remains one of the most underrated players of his era. That being said, at 74 years young, we're not sure the World Golf Hall-of-Famer could keep up with the young bucks of today's PGA Tour. Sorry for that truth bomb.
And yet, Kite is commanding some serious respect from the oddsmakers over at ESPN Bet, where the Texas native opened at 25-1 to win this week's American Express in Palm Springs. That's just a shade higher than two-time PGA champion Justin Thomas and lower than the likes of Sam Burns, Tony Finau and Jason Day. Don't call it a comeback, folks:
While 25-1 ain't bad, we do recommend shopping around and looking for a better number.
We kid, we kid. Obviously, this is a gaffe from some poor intern, and a genuinely hilarious one at that. Clearly, they meant to put Tom Kim in that slot, who is 25-1 to win this week. Tom Kim, Tom Kite, classic mixup. Of course, the fact they actually pulled out Kite's headshot makes it 10 times funnier. If it was Kim's headshot, OK, legitimate mistake. But Kite's headshot? That indicates someone actually thought the 74-year-old was not only teeing it up this week, but that he was one of the favorites. There's got to be somebody over there in Bristol with just a teeny-tiny bit of golf knowledge to speak up before Tom Kite ends up on the odds board on live TV, right?
What we do know - if Kite IS in fact teeing it up this week, he better get back in the gym ASAP:
