Iconic Photos of Kate Moss You Haven’t Seen Yet
Looking back on the British beauty's picture-perfect moments.
Kate Moss is known for many things: being a high-profile supermodel, contributing editor for British Vogue, Johnny Depp’s ex-girlfriend, former party girl, the UK creative director of Diet Coke, loving mother, wellness-guru, and successful businesswoman.
Perhaps you saw her walk in the Bottega Veneta Spring Summer 2023 show or working away on her new wellness brand, Cosmoss. Whatever you’ve seen or heard, there’s no doubt that Kate has rendered some legendary moments throughout her career. While thousands of images of the model (on and off the catwalk) surface around the internet, we dug deep in the archives to find snapshots you may have forgotten about, or better yet, never seen. Let’s get into it.
Beauty and Brains
Let’s throw it back to September 1995, where Kate Moss dedicated her first book Kate: The Kate Moss Book in New York, NY. Not only does the autobiography serve as an amazing coffee-table book, but it also captures Moss's journey to becoming one of the most iconic models in the world.
Debut Show for Alexander McQueen
Kate has walked for British fashion designer Alexander McQueen several times, but let’s rewind to his New York debut fashion show in March 1996. She strutted the stage in a cropped printed tee, low-rise pants, and an updo hairstyle. Not only was this a major milestone in Moss’s career, but also the beginning of a close friendship with McQueen. The two frequently worked together until McQueen’s death in 2010.
Fashion Royalty
Karl Lagerfeld—Chanel, Fendi, and Karl Lagerfeld designer—always seems to be surrounded by the industry’s top models. He is pictured with Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Amber Valletta, Kate Moss, and Stella Tennant at the Chanel Spring Summer 1996/1997 show in Paris. Even though Lagerfeld passed away in 2019, his legacy in the fashion world continues to live on. Like Moss, both of the fashion icons are well connected and have been honored in many campaigns, publications, and events.
Throwing It Back with Donatella
Kate Moss has always been amongst fashion icons and A-list celebrities. The model is pictured with Donatella Versace at the Donatella Versace Party at Club Twilo on October 28, 1995, in New York. Who knew how much these two blonde beauties would accomplish today?
Vivienne Westwood Circa 1994
British designer Vivienne Westwood is known to be experimental, creative, and eccentric when it comes to her runway collections. Some may remember the 1993 Spring Summer show in Paris when Kate walked down the runway topless eating a Magnum ice cream bar. She is no stranger to the madness after modeling for Westwood for decades. Here, the model is pictured on the catwalk during the 1994-1995 Autumn Winter fashion show in Paris, France, rocking a patterned co-ord set, gold nose accessory, poofed hair, large belt, shiny black heels, and shopping bags.
The Original London Girl
When one hears “get the London look,” Kate Moss probably comes to mind. The beauty guru became the face of Rimmel London in 2001 and continued to be a strong driver for the cosmetic brand for nearly two decades. On September 15, 2011, Moss launched her personally designed range Kate Moss Lasting Finishing Lipstick Collection. She also celebrated her 10 year partnership with Rimmel at a global press conference that day, wearing an all-gray look, in London.
Kate in Her Calvins
Nearly 30 years ago, Kate Moss accomplished her first Calvin Klein campaign. The then-17-year-old posed fresh-faced in nothing but her Calvins, in a moody black-and-white campaign, showing major skin. Being Klein’s muse, the young model continued working with the designer and became the face of the Obsession fragrance campaign in 1993. Pictured, Kate and fashion model Michael Bergin attended an in-store appearance at Macy’s Calvin Klein boutique in New York (1994).
Party Girl Kate
There’s no hiding that this supermodel has had her fair share of parties. Kate is pictured popping out of a cake, in a colorful printed dress, at Mert Alas’s birthday party on February 19, 2018, in London. The fashion photographer, now partnered with Marcus Piggott (Mert and Marcus), is known for working with some of the best publications and models of all time.
F1 Kate
The F1 fans will appreciate this one: German racer Michael Schumacher helps Kate Moss get into his Ferrari in Monte Carlo, Monaco, in 1999. Drivers will invest so much time and money on their automobiles, so you could say it’s a luxury sport. With luxury sports come supermodels, right?
Getting Philanthropic
In 2001, Kate Moss wore a “Pants to Poverty” T-shirt while she acted as a human canvas in Kingston, London, to raise money for Red Nose Day. The charity fundraising event originated in the UK and made its way over to the US in 2015. Celebrities dance, sing, and act during a live telethon to raise money for children in need. Moss has shown her philanthropic support in various ways; she’s even designed a limited-edition Rimmel London lipstick, named Red Nose Red!
Like Mother, Like Daughter
If we’re talking about famous mother-daughter duos, these two take the cake. Kate and daughter, Lila Grace Moss-Hack, were spotted on a balcony in Rome, Italy, in 2021. Kate poses in a chic all-black look, while Lila snaps her mother’s photo in a black crop top and printed maxi skirt. We all need a supportive photographer in our lives! The two have attended the Met Gala, sat front row at Dior shows, and Lila is even following in her mom’s modeling footsteps. She is signed by her mother’s modeling agency, Kate Moss Agency.
Front Row Ready
Kate is as iconic on the runway as she is off—you can always find her sitting pretty in the front row of the biggest fashion shows. Shawn Mendes, Kourtney Kardashian, and Travis Barker accompany Moss in VIP seating at the Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2022 ready-to-wear runway show in Brooklyn. What a full-circle moment.
Keep It Up, Girlboss!
Can’t keep up? That’s how we feel about Kate. The fashionista embraces her entrepreneurial side; from starting her own modeling agency to adding a new beauty & wellness brand to the mix. Moss poses at her debut event this past September, dressed in a flattering pink dress and layered accessories, at Harrods in London. The wellness brand consists of teas, creams, and “medicinal” beauty products made of sea moss. According to the Cosmoss website, “COSMOSS draws on the extraordinary life experience of Kate Moss—someone whose career and image has touched on and influenced so many others and yet has taken her own, rich journey of transformation gradually and privately.”
