1) Eat off an actual human
Forget plates and bowls... People have started eating off of each other. 😱
Nyotaimori "Body" or "Naked" Sushi has evolved since the reign of the last emperor of Japan. This sushi-devouring experience in the US involves removing sushi from a human form for consumption. It can feature both male (nantaimori) or women (nyotaimori).
These servers are trained to lie still for hours. Then, they’re shaved, scrubbed from head to toe with fragrance-free soap and covered in sushi. If that's not impressive, I don't know what is. 🤔
2) Dine while on a secret mission
If you've always wanted to be a 007 in another life, you secretly can! Downtown Chicago's got a secret agent-themed nightclub called SafeHouse and it's full of surprises. Pro-tip: You'll want to order the exploding "Fat Bastard". 😎
The restaurant goes all-out with original props from James Bond movies and dives deep into the mysterious espionage experience. 🕵🏼 From the minute you pass the clearance test or enter via password (yes, there's a password), the fun begins with a pre-meal scavenger hunt, an escape phone booth, an electric chair that pops through the floor and sliding bookcases!
P.S. They recommend finding the secret exit - a good spy never leaves the same way they entered. 😏
3) Eat out of a toilet
Have you ever thought that chocolate soft serve looks like the poo emoji? 💩 Modern Toilet in Taiwan has taken that to the next level. At the world's first toilet themed restaurant, you get to sit on a toilet bowl (closed, of course) while you enjoy eating steak, shaved ice, hotpot and curry out of tiny squat toilets, urinals and toilet bowls... Holy crap.
They started out selling swirly chocolate ice cream in containers shaped like mini toilets and gained popularity, expanding into a full-fledged themed restaurant franchise with multiple outlets across Taiwan. It's debatably the worst way to eat chocolate ice cream, but you've got to go... 😉
4) Eat what you can catch
Situated in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, you'll find the Japanese restaurant that offers you a discount for catching your own food with a net! 🐟
At Zauo, they've got an enormous tank made for guests to rent a fishing pole and try to hook a bite to eat. That way, you know for a fact that your fish is fresh!
After catching a flounder or red snapper, you can opt for the fish to be grilled, fried, or transformed into sushi upon request. 🍣
5) Dine in a glamourous treehouse
You'll find this fine dining experience in the forests north of Auckland, New Zealand, within pods that are only accessible via treetop walkway. About 32 feet from the ground, you can expect exemplary service catering to your every need, even if it's just a casual hors d’oeuvres-and-drinks setting you seek. 🍾
