L'allieva di danza di Venanzo Crocetti: Il ritorno

Jun 23, 2023 - Feb 02, 2025

After about two years of careful and specialised restoration by ICR technicians, Venanzo Crocetti's sculpture returns to GAM. Purchased in 1960 by the Municipality of Rome following the 8th National Art Quadrennial, the work represents one of Crocetti's first large-scale sculptures dedicated to the theme of dance, which already appeared in various sketches from the 1940s and which, from the late 1950s onwards, was to become a recurring theme within his production but also a symbolic icon for many figurative sculptors of the second half of the 20th century.

The exhibition is the result of a long process of shared intentions between public and private institutions with the aim of making the most of the works in the collections of the Sovrintendenza Capitolina.

The exhibition also anticipates the centenary celebrations of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Roma (1925-2025) during which the museum's contemporary collection will be highlighted with a series of exhibitions, events, but also excellent restorations, as in the case of Crocetti's work currently presented to the public.
