Lawmen: Man used tractor to try to keep wife from leaving
DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — A 64-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault after he tried to keep his wife from leaving by plowing the forks of his tractor into the side of her truck.
A Walton County sheriff's deputy responded to a domestic disturbance at the Walton County Fire and Rescue station in Paxton on Friday. The deputy spoke with the wife, who provided information about the confrontation with her husband, Danny Stewart.
According to Stewart's arrest report, the wife said she came home to get some things when she was confronted by Stewart and began arguing. She then got into her truck to leave.
Stewart got into a tractor and drove it through a fence to try to block her from leaving, the report said. He then used the pallet forks on the front of the tractor to hit the driver's-side rear window and door of her truck. However, the wife was still able to drive away.
A deputy later contacted Stewart, who claimed the wife was leaving with "his stuff." He admitted to getting on his tractor and blocking her from leaving. The deputy noticed damage to the truck that matched with the wife's statement, the report said.
Stewart was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Walton County Jail.
