Jerry Tyson (Michael Mosley) is back on ABC's "Castle" in Monday night's episode titled "Resurrection," the first hour of a two-parter. Tyson, also known as the triple killer or 3XK, has been one of the biggest villains for Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) since he escaped police custody in a season three episode and has been haunting the duo and precinct ever since.

Editor's note: Haven't watched yet? Be aware that there are spoilers in the copy below.

The last few minutes of "Resurrection" is heart-pumping, intense and dramatic, but you likely saw the cliffhanger of Beckett being taken coming. And if you didn't then think about it like this: Tyson and more recently, Dr. Kelly Nieman (Annie Wersching), has targeted Castle, Ryan (Seamus Dever), Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Lanie already, so Beckett was the last of the team that hasn't been directly targeted by the serial killers. Not too mention the fact that Tyson and Castle have this weird connection and fascination with each other, so going after Beckett would be the perfect way to rattle Castle, in Tyson's eyes.

At the very end of the hour, Castle figured out that Nieman and Tyson wanted to be in the precinct at the same time Beckett is supposed to be going pick up a potential witness, ideally so they can't be blamed for her disappearance. The audience saw Beckett answer her phone with the creepy song "We'll Meet Again" playing over the line then she's stabbed with a needle and thrown into a wheelchair, but we don't get a glimpse of the abductor's face.

Needless to say, Castle & Co. are totally shocked in the beginning of the episode when they see Tyson alive and well, though he claimed he is Mike Boudreau, and he had plastic surgery to look like Tyson, which is how Nieman is involved.

But Castle ain't buying any of that story.

Gates (Penny Johnson Jerald) allowed Castle to work the case with the team because he knows the Nieman and Tyson cases so well, also keep in mind that in season six's "Disciple" all of the 3XK files were stolen, so police don't have much information regarding Tyson, concrete evidence or DNA samples.

But when a blonde woman named Susan Watts is murdered in an alley, strangled, which is considered Tyson's MO, Lanie (Tamala Jones) noticed a few things about the victim that looked familiar, and she was right. Turns out that Watts had plastic surgery performed by Nieman.

Once traffic camera footage is pulled outside the hospital, the team saw Watts get into a pickup truck with Tyson, but it in fact isn't Watts, it's a lady that looks exactly like her named Amy Barrett.

The team believes that Nieman is suppling Tyson with attractive blonde women to kill after she gives them free cosmetic surgery. All of the women look exactly like Tyson's mother did when she was young, before she put him up for adoption.

And when Beckett is supposed to meet Barrett and bring her in for protection, well that's when she's taken. And viewers know that there's no coincidences involving hellish killers like 3XK or Nieman.

But again, because the police have no evidence or way to prove that Boudreau is in fact Tyson, the D.A. makes the team cut him loose. Tyson and Nieman walk out of the precinct hand-and-hand, Tyson even throws a wink in Castle's direction for good measure just as Nieman takes a call from a disguised voice that said, "It's done," as the elevator doors close.

All in all, a great, intense episode, which are typical for episodes that involve the triple killer. It certainly will be interesting to see how Castle handles Beckett being kidnapped because when it comes to Tyson, Castle has always felt responsible that Tyson got away back in that season three episode. Plus, remember how Castle got when Alexis was kidnapped and taken to Paris?

Lagniappe:

  • The cutesy family dynamic in the beginning of the episode, especially between Alexis (Molly Quinn) and Beckett is something viewers haven't really seen yet.
