This emu named Maybe was originally from a small hobby farm in Santa Rosa. The hobby farm was going to be closing down soon, leaving Maybe with nowhere to go. Thanks to The Shore Sanctuary, a non-profit vegan sanctuary for the misfits and unwanted, Maybe will now have a stable, loving home.

After driving almost 24 hours to rescue Maybe, the shore sanctuary team bonded with the emu, and he immediately started to feel like family. Once they arrived at the sanctuary, Maybe explored his new backyard, running around to stretch his legs. The team discovered that Maybe had a splayed leg and would need special environments, such as a flat area and special fencing, to ensure that her legs don’t get caught inside. Maybe can be found enjoying watermelon on a hot day and snuggling with her rescuers. To keep up with Maybe’s story, follow The Shore Sanctuary on Instagram.
