John S It's not a perfect movie but the performances are very entertaining. It's one part vampy chess game and one part cautionary tale. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Domenick Tremendous craftsmanship, but not as moving and indelible as some other movies in "the canon." Everyone knows its a meditation on the fleeting nature of stardom and apparent ubiquity of petty jealousy and associated betrayals but it seems almost no one can remember plot specifics more than a week or two after seeing it. The towering reputation is inextricably tied to the cult of Betty Davis - and this is arguably her greatest role (apparently Ebert agrees). Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/13/24 Full Review Merick H One of the greatest films ever made. The writing is excellent and the performances are superb. It is a gripping picture. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review nick s Bette Davis was fantastic. Great dialogue dripping with subtle sarcasm. The story wasn't mind-blowing so this could easily be a flop, but the director and cast makes every moment worth watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review mich L This was great, old timey movies usually baffle tf outta me but I was able to understand, empathise & thoroughly enjoy this movie. The acting was superb, storyline titillating &plot engaging af! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/12/23 Full Review Alec B Mankiewicz wrote one of the great screenplays here, filled with acid wit and unforgettable quips . . . oh, and the cast is perfect. Pauline Kael New Yorker Joseph L. Mankiewicz's bad taste, exhibited with verve, is more fun than careful, mousy, dehydrated good taste. His nonsense about "theatre" is saved by one performance that is the real thing: Bette Davis is at her most instinctive and assured. Jul 28, 2022 Full Review Richard L. Coe Washington Post You'll want to see All Abut Eve a couple of times. Jul 26, 2022 Full Review Times (UK) Staff Times (UK) The script is well capable of carrying out the film's intentions -- it is, indeed, an admirable piece of work and not lacking in wit. Feb 17, 2022 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand The barbed dialogue is witty and wonderful, delivered with tart insolence by Bette Davis as ... an aging Broadway lioness who watches ruthless cub Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter) pull out her claws as she purrs and insinuates herself into stardom. Aug 19, 2023 Full Review Mark Johnson Awards Daily A penetrating anecdote on the viciousness of narcissism, cynicism, deceit, and celebrity, All About Eve is one of the most revolutionary and sharp-edged screenplays ever written. Jun 8, 2023 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies All About Eve proved to Hollywood that Bette Davis wasn't ready to quit and it remains one of the greatest films ever made.
