      Critics Consensus

It isn't clear who is most culpable for this creepy comedy's sheer wrongness, but its smarmy laughs and uncomfortable romance will leave audiences feeling guilty long afterward.

Duane P This movie is a hidden gem, full of laughs...Sure, given the extreme sensitivity nowadays, some will find the premise a bit creepy, but everything isn't a fairy tale in the real world...This movie has a combination of seasoned veteran actors (Michael Caine, Joseph Bologna, & Valerie Harper) and newcomers of the time (Michelle Johnson & a young Demi Moore)...It is a well written comedy that will have your face sore from laughing, and even make you feel for the characters even though they are getting into situations they clearly should be avoiding...I would describe it as a free flowing, roller coaster of laughs, betrayal, and realization that life can be unconventional...The scenery is beautiful, the soundtrack is memorable...Is it the best movie of all time??? Absolutely not...However, if you take it for what it is...An 80's comedy that combines coming of age with turning back time, you will enjoy this movie... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/23 Full Review Peregrinus Beautiful location beautiful girls and a few laughs. Caine is notorious for not reading scripts before signing up and judging how awkward he looks in some of the romantic scenes I'm not sure he knew what he was getting himself into or at least I hope so but it was the 80's and older men and young women was still very much accepted thankfully not so much today. His performance is good as it normally is and if you can watch it without too much of a modern perspective which applies to many great but troubling 80's films let's face it, it was enjoyable but once will be enough Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review Penny S Hilarious. The narration by character is too funny. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/17/23 Full Review Steve D As gross and uncomfortable as it sounds. I hope Cain got another great house out of it because no one else got anything. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/07/23 Full Review Patricia K I remember seeing this in the 80's when it came out. Didn't think a thing about it. HOWEVER. A big old wtf to anyone saying anything positive about it now. Really? She's calling him UNCLE MATTHEW and is underage for F's sake. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/02/23 Full Review ChrisisAbroad If you're a prude you will have a hard time with this movie. Funny thing some prudes still watch these kind of movies. Watchable movie with some funny bits. Caine was excellent. To be fair I think 3 full stars is the right score. If you voted less you're probably a prude. If you voted more you simply like these sex comedies movies of the 80s. You can't make movies like this anymore so it's nostalgic for you. James Berardinelli ReelViews Putting aside any morally objectionable aspects, the movie gets tripped up in three areas: bad writing, bad acting, and an whiplash-inducing inconsistency in tone.
