      Season 1 – The Fall

2013 Crime Drama Mystery & Thriller List
96% 23 Reviews Tomatometer 92% 500+ Ratings Audience Score The psychological thriller examines the lives of two hunters -- one is a serial killer who preys on victims in and around Belfast, Northern Ireland, and the other is a female detective drafted from the London Metropolitan Police to catch him. The local authorities have no suspects and no experience with cases involving sexually motivated serial killers; DSI Stella Gibson has. She heads a task force dedicated to solving the crime spree, with a simple motto: Anyone not part of the solution is part of the problem. The killer? He's Paul Spector, a father and a husband leading a double life, as viewers learn from the outset. He's hiding in plain sight, the protagonist in a cat and mouse game that is every police officer's worst nightmare. Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Premiered Mar 16 Buy Now

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Less sensationalistic and more provocative than most police procedurals, The Fall is unapologetically sexy with pressure-building tension driven by plausible characters and motifs.

Devra B This was an excellent crime drama—I was glued to every episode from each of the three seasons. Just…WOW. The acting and storyline were superb. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Jim H This was a great show and a compelling crime drama. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/31/23 Full Review Maricruz B De las mejores series! Las primeras temporadas estuvieron super! La recomiendo! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review Lukas K "The Fall" initially convinced me a lot. The story of a nondescript family man trying to balance his life as an autonormal citizen and his existence as a serial killer is very interesting to watch. In addition, both Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan are very convincing in the leading roles. I also find the narrative style, which constantly switches between the perspective of the murderer and the investigation against him, superbly done. Now I come to the big BUT: The killer is often described as intelligent, but the fact that he doesn't get caught is more due to a lot of happy coincidences. In addition, the series is very noticeably lengthened by the 3rd season and the ending is also very disappointing. In my opinion, the series would have been better off with a 2nd season concept with 7 episodes each and without the superfluous twist in the 3rd season. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/10/23 Full Review Audience Member I've just started this show and I'm already so confused because 2 actresses look like twins - I literally can not tell the difference. Why do some of these shows not cast with diversity - instead they either have everyone looking similar or the same race it's so boring at this point. Gonna try abs give it a few more eps but casting literal actors that look like twins is so stupid. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Steve S Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. A must watch, IMHO. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/09/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Geordie Gray The Australian This BBC serial killer thriller stands as the genre’s most effective and menacing... Aug 17, 2023 Full Review Emily Hashimoto Bitch Media While Gibson's character is an excellent addition to the police-drama canon, the show's central plotline is regrettably unoriginal. Jan 22, 2021 Full Review Chris Harvey Daily Telegraph (UK) It was very slick, very knowing and Anderson and Dornan were actually very good. But if there is a more Athena version of a serial killer out there, I'm yet to see it. Rated: 3/5 Apr 3, 2019 Full Review Sarah McMullan Stuff.co.nz Dornan completely inhabits Spector in a most unnerving way. The cat-and-mouse chemistry between him and Gillian Anderson (also with her natural accent) is fantastic. The air positively crackles between them. Apr 15, 2021 Full Review Caroline Preece TV Equals The Fall has been fabulous telly in every sense, and this ending should not leave fans unsatisfied. Apr 3, 2019 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media This show is binge watching at its best; it's at once compulsively watchable and intelligent, well-written and beautifully acted with compelling performances to boot.
