A DISCIPLINARY hearing date has been set for the former African National Congress (ANC) leader, now head of the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party, Jacob Zuma, by the ANC.
Zuma is to meet with the ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee due to his support and campaigning efforts for the MK while still being a member of the ANC.
In December 2023, the former president surprised Mzansi by announcing his decision not to campaign for the ruling party, instead supporting the MK, which later named him as the party leader.
Since his surprising announcement, he has actively campaigned to challenge the ANC, even recruiting some of its members.
On Thursday afternoon, 2 May, the ANC confirmed they have sent him a notice for a meeting.
The ANC's spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, stated this formal notice includes the date, time, and place for his disciplinary hearing.
"The ANC Constitution sets the rules for this process, ensuring fairness, due process, and openness,” she mentioned.
Bhengu-Motsiri emphasized their commitment to transparency during the disciplinary hearing, allowing Zuma to defend himself against any accusations.
On the topic of accountability, Bhengu-Motsiri highlighted the importance of maintaining discipline within their ranks.

"All members are held to the same standards of behavior. The ANC's renewal process is about reflection, learning from our past, and strengthening our commitment. Disciplinary actions are part of this renewal," she added.
She further stated that the ANC remains committed to justice, unity, and progress as they approach this crucial moment, reaffirming their dedication to their core values.
Zuma faces two charges: endorsing the MK party on 16 December 2023 and appearing on the candidate list for the MK Party.
MK party spokesman Nhlamulo Ndhlela confirmed Zuma would attend the hearing on Tuesday, 7 May to respond to the charges by the ANC.
Ndhla mentioned the party plans to bring their campaign message directly to the ANC headquarters.
