Joe Goddard is a popular and respected British alternative dance and electronic DJ, vocalist and percussion player, best known for his contributions to the electronic music group Hot Chip, hailing from London, England, UK.
In the year 2000, alongside Alexis Taylor and Owen Clarke, Joe Goddard formed Hot Chip, making their debut shortly after with the EP “Mexico” on Victory Garden Records. The self-released CD “San Frandisco” was subsequently sold at live shows before Hot Chip signed with Moshi Moshi in 2003, who issued the band’s debut full-length “Coming on Strong” in 2004. Following the release Goddard, Clarke and Taylor invited Felix Martin and Al Doyle to expand the lineup and singed with DFA Records and EMI.
Goddard released two more albums with Hot Chip, 2006’s “The Warning” and 2008’s “Made in the Dark”, before exploring his solo interests. In 2009 the talented multi-instrumentalist released his debut solo album “Harvest Festival” on his own Greco-Roman imprint. Showcasing the London-native’s playful instrumental approach, the record borrows influences from dub-step, synthpop, Chicago house, and indie-rock.
Following a move to the independent Domino Records, Hot Chip released their fourth studio album “One Life Stand” in February 2010, followed by their fifth, “In Our Heads”, in June 2012. The same year Goddard issued his sophomore full-length “Gabriel”, once again on his Greco-Roman label. The record highlighted the producer’s maturity and experience, which were showcased the same year by Goddard’s remix of the Dirty Projectors’ single, “The Socialites”, and a performance at Glastonbury festival in 2014. In 2015 Hot Chip released their sixth studio album “Why Make Sense”, led by the single “Huarache Lights”.
Read moreWith Hot Chip, multi-instrumentalist Joe Goddard has remained at the forefront of the alternative dance scene for the past decade or so; from the band’s early underground phase, to their breakthrough into the alternative scene with hit album The Warning and huge, club-troubling anthems like ‘Over and Over’, to their breakthrough into the mainstream with Made in the Dark, its chart hit single ‘Ready for the Floor’ and the record’s critically acclaimed follow-up One Life Stand, Goddard has crafted a complex blend of dance sounds typically associated with the clubs and indie pop and rock sounds in a way that’s marked him out as one of the most exciting musicians in Britain. That’s why there was considerable excitement in 2009 when, fresh from the success of Made in the Dark, Goddard announced a new project, The 2 Bears, with Raf Rundell of 1965 Records. Their debut album Be Strong met with fine reviews upon release in early 2012 and also cracked the UK top forty; the follow-up, The Night Is Young, will be released next month to considerable anticipation. Expect Goddard to break away from his apparently never-ending schedule with Hot Chip to play some intimate shows with Rundell; a chance to see a master of his craft in intimate confines.
