Description

This reading is a primary source from the Qing Dynasty about the explorations and expeditions of the legendary Zheng He.

This reading goes into detail about where Zheng He traveled and his actions along the way and how he honorably served the Chinese emperor Yongle among others.

The reading opens up with students being asked to source the documents and determine its reliability. This source comes from China and comes from the dynasty that overthrew the Ming so students are asked if this affects the document's relaibility as a source about Zheng He.

Students are then tasked with gisting each paragraph of the source and then answering analysis questions where students must cite evidence from the text.

The questions range from comprehension to analytical as students need to consider how Zheng He helped increase the power of the emperor within China.

Students are finally tasked with completing a paragraph where they need to evaluate how Zheng He should be viewed; as a positive explorer who helped China or a conqueror who terrorized other nations.
