Wangari Maathai (1940 – 2011) was a Kenyan environmentalist and women’s rights activist. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy, and peace. She won many other awards throughout her life for her work, including the World Citizenship Award in 2007.
