Jodie recently revealed the intense fitness routine she underwent to achieve a "ripped" appearance for her new movie Nyad.

The actress signed on to play trainer Bonnie Stoll in the Oscar-nominated film and hit the gym immediately after, according to The Washington Post.

“We never really heard anything more from her,” Nyad director Jimmy Chin told the outlet.

“And then she showed up just ripped.”

The movie follows the true story of marathon swimmer Diana Nyad, portrayed by actress Annette Bening, who navigated 110 miles from Cuba to Florida in 2013.

Diana completed the treacherous swim at the age of 64 with the help of her close friend, trainer, and former girlfriend Bonnie Stoll.

Both Jodie and Annette were nominated for an Oscar for their performances.

JODIE'S FITNESS ROUTINE

To get in shape for the important role, the Silence of the Lambs alum spent months training in the gym alongside Bonnie herself.

The 71-year-old athlete and racquetball professional does "100 reps of shoulder, biceps, and ab moves per day, power walks for two hours, and does military-style chin-ups and pull-ups," according to the Post.

Jodie worked out every day before and during the filming process with her coach.

The outlet added that she, "alternated between kettlebell drills and heavy weightlifting, eating a strict diet of mostly brown rice, chicken, and broccoli."

After she wrapped filming, Jodie told Bonnie that she hoped to "never see chicken again," per the Post.

But the beloved actress's hard work paid off, as in the movie she appears incredibly strong and did mainly her own stunts.

Nyad was filmed in open water and a tank with very limited use of doubles, The Straits Times revealed.

HONEST ABOUT AGING

Jimmy's wife Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi - who co-directed the film with her husband - shared that both Jodie and Annette hoped to break down barriers regarding aging in women.

“It was important to both actors that we not touch their bodies, as in touch up.

“They were committed to play women of their age.”

The Post added that Jodie's motivation to take on the film was her opportunity to portray older women who are "badasses."

GOING NATURAL

The award-winning actress previously opened up about the difficulties she's experienced through aging to Interview Magazine.

“I was struggling in my fifties. I was sort of like, ‘Am I ever going to do anything meaningful again? Is this all there is?’ And there’s that awkward phase where everybody who’s in their late forties or fifties is very busy getting all plumped and shooting s**t into their face.

"I didn’t want that life, but I also knew that I couldn’t compete with my old self,” she shared.

“There was something about going back to the work with a different attitude, I think. About really enjoying supporting other people and saying to myself, ‘This is not my time. I had my time. This is their time, and I get to participate in it by giving them whatever wisdom I have.’

"Somehow it’s so much more satisfying to be a part of a team that’s doing something awesome than it is to be all on your own trying to jump up that hill and make something out of nothing,” she explained.
