“Nobody knows better than [Chemena] Kamali the spontaneous feeling of It-ness that belongs to the female-centric Chloé philosophy,” Vogue’s Sarah Mower wrote in her review of the newly appointed creative director’s debut autumn/winter 2024 collection for the house. The cluster of It-girls on the front row – all wearing identical pairs of Kamali’s instantly covetable platform Chloé wedges – illustrated her point. Among the perfectly pedicured toes on display that day were those of Sienna Miller, a woman who has been synonymous with boho chic since she strapped on a coin belt to see Kings of Leon play the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury back in 2004. So who better than Sienna to play the new Chloé girl at the Met Gala, on the most high-profile red carpet of the year?

Sienna gave birth to her second daughter in December, but sleepless nights have done nothing to diminish her aptitude for orchestrating a sensational fashion moment (rare is the mum who slips into a sheer cobweb gown to attend a party just five months postpartum). Rather, Miller has managed to bookend her pregnancy with two red-carpet appearances tailor-made to inspire a paparazzi meltdown: first her bump-revealing Schiaparelli separates at Vogue World back in September, and now this: an angelic white lace minidress with tiered ruffled sleeves and a sweeping train, toughened up with black leather studded ankle-strap pumps.

Of course, Miller’s Chloé girl status pre-dates the viral wedge by a decade or so. The house’s pieces were key to her wardrobe in the Noughties – back when her hippie-inflected style was informing every collection on the high street – and Sienna has held on to them, too. A couple of summers ago, she was photographed wearing a suitably boho pair of Chloé boots that have been in her closet since at least 2009.

Miller, who appeared on US Vogue’s January cover shortly before giving birth, is back living in the UK after several years based in New York, happily ensconced with her boyfriend Oli Green, 27, their baby girl, and 11-year-old Marlowe, Sienna’s daughter with her former partner, Tom Sturridge. In her wide-ranging conversation with Vogue, she opened up about how she’d always dreamed of expanding her family, finding love with a younger man, and remaining open-hearted in spite of her scarring encounters with the tabloid press in the past. As she told Vogue’s Chloe Schama: “I think you either live your life with caution or you take risks.”
