It’s common knowledge that couples often wind up dressing like each other, and ending a relationship doesn’t always result in a wardrobe reset. When exes Amber Heard and Tasya van Ree stepped out this weekend for lunch at West Hollywood hotspot Gracias Madre, they displayed a fashion sensibility that was completely in sync. In a black pullover and dark wash cropped jeans by Mother, Heard looked every inch the off-duty starlet, while Van Ree’s combination of low rise boyfriend jeans, an oversize sweater, and a beanie hat complemented her perfectly.

Though Heard and Van Ree have always maintained their individual styles, they share a love of laid-back essentials and eye-catching accessories. Both fans of wide-brim hats, reflective sunglasses, and a great pair of flats, they regularly dress up their denim and T-shirts with the addition of statement pieces. During their relationship that meant plenty of well-dressed moments at events, and as they’ve moved from girlfriends to good friends, they’ve stayed true to their tastes. Back in June, they stepped out in coordinating denim that embodied West Coast cool.

In color-blocked oxfords and a Chloé bag, Heard looked chic, hiding her newly tinted pink hair beneath a fedora. With Justice League set for release this weekend and a second film (London Fields co-starring Cara Delevingne) slated for the end of the year, Heard has plenty of red carpet moments on the horizon, but her casual style remains even more appealing. Whether or not she and Van Ree are back on, their outfits continue to speak volumes.
