Karl Lagerfeld once described wearing sweatpants as a “sign of defeat,” but that didn’t stop Irina Shayk from changing into a tracksuit to hit the after-parties following the 2023 Met Gala. The supermodel swerved the visible lingerie vibe that’s fast becoming a post-Met tradition for Kendall Jenner, and slipped into something way more comfortable instead: a white tank and grey marl track pants.

The model’s relaxed look was not entirely without sparkle. She left on the custom Ana Khouri choker she’d worn on the red carpet, and her Timberland boots were not the flat kind favored by Jennifer Lopez, but a bedazzled, high-heeled version courtesy of the brand’s maximalist collaboration with Jimmy Choo.

Despite the prevalence of sky-high platforms, corsets, and cat costumes at the Met, Irina dressed for comfort all night. Before hitting the dance floor in her track pants, the model walked the red carpet at the Met itself in a pair of pared-back slipper-like flats, worn with a silky Yohji Yamamoto gown.

Shayk may have defied one of Karl’s most infamous fashion edicts with her athleisure look, but her comfort-first outfit for a long night of partying did comply with another of the designer’s quips: “Don’t dress to kill. Dress to survive.”
