Maurice Chevalier (September 12, 1888 – January 1, 1972) was a French actor, cabaret singer and entertainer. His signature songs include "Livin' In The Sunlight", "Valentine", "Louise", "Mimi", and "Thank Heaven for Little Girls". His trademark attire was a boater hat, which he always wore on stage with a tuxedo.
Maurice Auguste Chevalier was born on 12 September 1888, at 27 rue du Retrait in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. He was the son of Victor Charles Chevalier, house painter, and Joséphine Van den Bossche, day worker.[1]
He married Marguerite Yvonne Vallée on 10 October 1927 in Vaucresson.[1]
He lived with Nita Raya during a few years (1935-1945). They were not married.
He died on January 1, 1972, in the 15 arrondissement of Paris, aged 83.[1]
