‘Guerrilla’: John Ridley’s Showtime-Sky Miniseries Sets Male Lead, Rounds Out Cast

Guerrilla, Showtime and Sky Atlantic‘s six-episode series about a politically active couple who set out to change the world in 1970s London, has firmed up the cast as it heads into production this week. Joining the project from creator-writer-producer John Ridley and EP Idris Elba are (clockwise from top left in photo below): Babou Ceesay — who plays the male lead — Rory Kinnear, Nathaniel Martello-White, Daniel Mays, Brandon Scott, Nicholas Pinnock, Zawe Ashton and Denise Gough.
Guerrilla is a love story set against the backdrop of one of the most politically explosive times in U.K. history. It tells the story of a couple (Ceesay and Freida Pinto) whose relationship and values are tested when they liberate a political prisoner and form a radical underground cell. Their ultimate target becomes the Black Power Desk, a true-life, secretive counterintelligence unit within Special Branch dedicated to crushing all forms of black activism.
Ceesay plays the role of Marcus, partner of Jas (Pinto). they quickly transform from political activists into hardened militants.. Kinnear and Mays play the respective roles of Pence and Cullen, police officers assigned to the Special Branch. Ashton is Omega, who views herself as a leader within the black community; Gough is the tough and fiery Fallon; and Martello-White will play Dhari, an astute and charismatic radical. Pinnock is the calm and cool Julian, and Scott plays Leroy, a rough customer who is dedicated to the movement but also has his own policies.
Set to air next year on Showtime and Sky Atlantic, Guerrilla is executive produced by Ridley and co-star Elba, the latter through his Green Door Pictures and produced by ABC Signature Studios. Ridley will write the majority of the episodes and direct the first two and the finale. Sam Miller will helm the remaining episodes.
