Description

    RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • The present application claims priority to the U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 61/795,259, filed on Oct. 15, 2012, the entire disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference herein, including any drawings.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is in the field of a smoking apparatus and in particular relates to the use of a seashell as a smoking apparatus.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE
  • There are numerous apparatuses available in the market that allow users to smoke various substances. Pipes contain several distinct parts, even if inseparable: the bowl (the chamber where substance to be burned is loaded into the pipe), the draft or draught hole (the passageway where smoke from combustion is pulled from the bowl into the stem), the stem or chamber (the primary tube, cylinder, or passageway through which smoke travels from the draft hole into the bit), and the bit or mouthpiece (the portion of the pipe with which a user's lips typically make direct contact for the purpose of inhaling smoke). Pipes are constructed from wood, corncob, metal, a synthetic blend, or a glass material such as pyrex or borosilicate.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • Disclosed herein are smoking apparatuses, wherein the apparatus comprises an altered seashell, whether organic, salt or freshwater, or synthetically or human bred. Also disclosed are methods for altering a seashell to form a smoking apparatus.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS
  • Disclosed herein is a device for smoking a substance by use of a seashell. The disclosed device comprises a seashell that is naturally occurring or human bred.
  • FIG. 1 illustrates an embodiment wherein a spindle shell is used. The shell comprises a naturally open end 102, which is used as the bowl where the user will insert substance for combustion. The body of the shell 104 can be of any shape or size, for example, of a naturally occurring, or human bred, seashell. The mouthpiece 106 is at the end of the shell opposite of the open end 102, and is a location where the shell has been drilled to allow air or smoke to exit.
  • The seashells used in the present embodiments are preferably long. That is, the seashells comprise a length along a long axis 110 that is at least 1.5 times the width along a short axis 108 of the shell. The long axis 110 and the short axis 108 are perpendicular imaginary lines, each one of which bisects the seashell. The long axis 110 bisects the seashell along the seashell's length, while the short axis 108 bisects the seashell along the seashell's width.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates an embodiment wherein a tulip shell is used. This shell also comprises the open end 202, the body 204, and the mouthpiece 206. Likewise, FIGS. 3 and 4 illustrate embodiments where a tibia curt shell and an auger shell, respectively, are shown. These shells also comprise the open end 302,402, the body 304,404, and the mouthpiece 306,406.
  • In some embodiments, the shell is cut, chopped, drilled, sawed, sanded, sliced, or otherwise opened by some means at the end opposite to the open end 102,202,302,402. In some embodiments, a hole is drilled along the long axis 110 of the shell. In other embodiments, the closed end of the shell is cut off, analogous to cutting the end of a cigar using a cigar cutter. This severance is done at such a point to create a mouthpiece 106,206,306,406, which will open a passageway through the entire length of the shell along the long axis 110. A method of achieving this outcome is to first saw the shell perpendicular to its length, i.e., parallel to the short axis 108, and then, if a passageway is still not created, drill along the long axis 110 directly into the sliced portion of the shell to establish a functional hole.
  • In some embodiments, a screen(s) or strainer(s) is placed inside the open end 102,202,302,402 of the shell to prevent the substance to be smoked from falling deep into the shell.
  • In some embodiments, the seashell further comprises a carb, which is a hole in the side of the seashell drilled substantially perpendicularly to the internal open channel connecting the open end 102,202,302,402 to the mouthpiece 106,206,306,406, allowing external air to bypass the bowl and flow directly into the stem for the purpose of clearing the smoke from the stem.
  • Also disclosed are methods for smoking with the device by inserting a substance to be smoked in the open end 102,202,302,402 of the shell. A user places his lips or mouth on the mouthpiece 106,206,306,406. While holding a flame to the desired substance to be smoked, the user sucks air through the device thereby inhaling smoke from the burning material through the length of the shell 104,204,304,404, out the mouthpiece 106,206,306,406, and finally into the user's mouth.

Claims (6)

What is claimed is:
1. A smoking apparatus, wherein the apparatus comprises a seashell comprising a body, an open end, and a mouthpiece.
2. The smoking apparatus of claim 1, wherein the mouthpiece is an artificially created hole at a closed end of the seashell.
3. The smoking apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a screen in the seashell near the open end.
4. A method of making a smoking apparatus, the method comprising:
obtaining a seashell having a closed end and an open end; and
creating a hole at the close end of the seashell, thereby creating a passageway between the closed and open ends.
5. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of placing a screen in the seashell near the open end.
6. A method for smoking comprising steps of:
obtaining a seashell having a mouthpiece and an open end;
placing a substance to be smoked in the open end of the seashell;
heating the bowl; and
inhaling through the mouthpiece.
