...Bart is squinting while Marge is talking about the "3 o'clock
holdup"?
...the tomatoes in Cletus and Brandine's farm stand are labeled
"TOMA/TOES" (yuck)?
...Marge's stomach doesn't physically rumble like Homer and
Bart's?
...the establishing shot shown while Lisa sings the second verse of
"Mocking Bird" is extremely long?
...OFF eating "Shakespeare's Fried Chicken"?
...Shakespeare's Fried Chicken is open for breakfast (or there were a
lot of leftovers)?
...Ralph appears alone in the camp-out line?
...only Milhouse's dad (no sign of Luann) came to camp out with
Milhouse?
...Homer is holding Lisa when she wakes up from her dream?
...Lewis is in line with no parents?
...Sanjay is entering Pahusacheta into the singing competition?
...Cooder standing behind Apu and Snake when they hug?
...Lisa is contestant number 65?
...two Blues Brothers look-alikes applauding when Lisa finished singing
"I'm Talkin' Springfield"?
...Homer has grown to like Shelbyville (I guess the musical in GABF08
changed his mind)?
...Snowball I died on Christmas Eve?
...Lisa pauses a moment before firing Homer?
...Homer doesn't close the car doors even after parking?
...Lisa doesn't mind winning by sabotage?
...according to Krusty's Li'l Starmaker, Lisa is the best child
singer in Springfield?
...we don't get to see Lisa animated into Itchy and Scratchy (just
like The Simpsons contest winner)?
Goofs
- Homer's portobello mushroom is brown on his fork but green on his
plate
- Why is Ralph the first kid to perform when he is behind the other
children in line?
- I'm sure Lisa would never refer to what her and Ralph had as dating
- Martin's dad moves from the crowd to the audition line with Martin
- Dr. Hibbert's son is in front if Lisa when camping out, but behind
her when they are listening to Clarissa sing
- When Agnes is clapping for Lisa's song during the tryouts, her
hands are yellower than her face
- Krusty is no longer in his suit when the Applause-O-Meter is
"crying"

Review
I was afraid that this episode would just be an "American Idle"
plug, but it worked great on its own. Fantasia Barrino's singing was
great and she served her place in the plot (in other words, she
wasn't given unnecessary and awkward lines just to hear her speak).
Lisa and Homer were completely in character. The divide between the
two was compelling and heart warming. Neither of them was mad just for
the sake of being mad to drive the plot - You could tell that they
wanted to make up, just like a real father and daughter would. "A
Star is Torn" is "Lisa the Beauty Queen" meets "Bart Star,"
and it turns out to be a worthy combination. Grade: B+
Where is Springfield?
Close enough to Syracuse University for recent graduates to kiss
Homer's ass.

Being animated into a Simpsons episode was not one of the prizes (I
assume you are referring to the 1-800-COLLECT contest) - all they
promised is that the winner would be "animated and interact with one
or more Simpsons characters". (I assumed they would be put into a
second Simpsons 1-800-COLLECT commercial, but no second commercial was
ever made.)

I've never heard of "American Idle" either. "American Idol", on the
other hand...

Yeah, I was always a little fuzzy about that contest. Thanks for
clearing it up.

Haha, can you tell I'm not a fan of the show? Anyway, I knew it was
"American Idol," but my subconscious apparently identifies more with
the word "idle." My subconscious is an idiot. Who knew spellcheck
wouldn't read your mind? I blame Microsoft.

Note for capsule: Please replace "Idle" with "Idol." If you don't want
to take the time, just let me know, and I'll do it myself.

...Snowball I died on Christmas Eve?
I figured that wasn't true, and that Homer just wrote it into the song to
make it as sad as possible.

Snowball I's past is shrouded in mystery.
Now that I think of it, Marge's Christmas letter at the beginning of
"Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" implies that Snowball I had died within
the year. Since that part of the episode takes place before Christmas Eve,
the only way Snowball could really have died then is if it had happened on
the PREVIOUS Christmas Eve, and Marge took almost a year before telling
people about it.
