My fellow Americans, it’s time to help one of our nation’s greatest forgotten treasures. It’s time to assist the man who provided us with summer jams such as “Hot In Herre,” “Shake Ya Tailfeather” and “Ride Wit Me.” It’s time to give back to the man who made it cool to wear jerseys backwards and Band-Aids on our faces.

It’s time to lend Nelly a hand.

According to TMZ, Nelly owes a lot of money in taxes. He’s been hit with a $2,412,283 federal tax lien. The St. Louis rapper also owes $149,511 in state taxes. If Nelly does not start to pay back his debt, the IRS could potentially seize his property and assets.

Luckily for us, there is a way to help him out with just the click of a button. It’s gonna take A LOT of clicks—but we can do it.

SPIN Magazine reports that Spotify artists make between $.006 and $0.0084 per steam. If Nelly were to make $0.0084 per stream, Spotify users would need to stream “Hot In Herre” at least 287,176,547 times in order for Nelly to make enough money to have a chance at paying back his debt.

Fans all over have joined the fight to #SaveNelly.

Hashtags such as #SaveNelly and #HotInHerreStreamingParty are raising awareness on social media.

Late-night hosts Stephen Colbert and James Corden have also jumped on the #SaveNelly bandwagon.

Colbert wrote his own version of “Hot In Herre” and titled it “Debt In Herre.” The “Late Show” host used the song as a teaching moment for Nelly, rapping catchy lines like, “IRS won’t sign a truce, so just file your W-2s, from now on…”

James Corden played “Hot In Herre” during the show to show his support.

The campaign to constantly stream Nelly’s songs is slowly paying off.

YouTube

Spotify reports that streams of Nelly’s songs have tripled this week. That’s a 200% increase during peak hours compared to the previous week.

The fight to #SaveNelly is not over. We, as Americans, must continue to blast Nelly songs wherever we go. It’s the least we can do to say thank you for his party-starting bangers. It’s time to turn your AC up because it’s about to get hot in herre.
