An Ode to How I Met Your Mother

And it’s little disappointing end

For the past nine years, this show has been a part of our lives. Giving us many moments of joy, teaching us important lessons of life. My favourite one is from Lily “You can’t design your life like a building, it doesn’t work that way. You just have to live it and it will design itself.

Listen to what the world is telling you to do”

There are many such beautiful take away moments from the show. It made us laugh, cry & grow as the characters grew. My favourite always have been & always will be Marshmellow & Lilypad. These two characters & their relationship is so realistic & there is so much one can learn from it. The perks & kicks of being in a relationship, how not to loose yourself when you are in a relationship & how important the love of your significant other is in your journey of life.

The other three characters, the dreamy eyed leading man Ted Mosby, the flirty loony good looking Barney Stinson & the career oriented & strong headed Robin Scherbatsky.

Ted always kept searching for the perfect women who would check of all the items off his list, oh this list! I am sure we each have a list of many things, I must say if this show teaches us one thing, its that even if we do find someone or something that checks off every item on our list, it may or may not always last. We should all stick to who we truly are. The relationship of the mother (Tracy) & Ted shows that even when the relationship is perfect, it may not always last & that you have to give all you have got to make it work.

Robin has been shown as the career women, but she has not always been like that, she took her chances with Don & Kevin but it did not work out. Ultimately she did get what she wanted out of her career but her personal life was totally broken because of that. We humans always think our careers mean everything to us, but no it does not, we need the love & presence of our dear ones too.

And the legendary Barney Stinson, this dude got his heart broken in his early twenties or who knows even before that because of his father issues & he overcame his insecurities in the worst possible manner. Sleeping around, lying & what not. Even though it happened in the show’s final moments, I was glad to see Barney change, he changed to make someone never feel the way he did. I hope the character always stood by ‘The true love of his life, his daughter’

Coming to the ending, at first I was furious to learn that Ted went back to Robin, but as I started thinking about it, Ted did try his best to make it with Tracy & this time so did Robin, she tried to stay away from his life, let his relationship with the mother bloom while she spent all the time feeling lonely. I guess we fans were so enraged because it was shown in such a short duration. All these three characters tried to go their own separate paths & get on with their lives. We all know that Ted did love Tracy & was a good husband. But as his wife said ‘life only moves forward’ I think I am starting to be at peace with Robin & Ted ending together. Both of them are not the same they were in the first season, the characters have grown & understand each other better now. One can never say why a couple will work, when other will not. I guess it’s all about the journey of getting to that point, to understand what we want.

So here’s a salute to a Legen ‘wait for it’ dary show, which taught us so many things.

I want to end this article with this quote from Ted “Eventually, over time, we all become our own doppelgangers. You know, these completely different people who just happen to look like us.” ☺
