Many people might consider some of my artistic preferences morbid. The scope in which I see beauty is vast, and I often gravitate toward the unusual.
I give Kate Clark immense credit for creating work that actually unnerves me. This is not typical shock value schlock; it is calculating and intense.
Her sculptures toy with the notions of man and animal, life and death. They lurk somewhere between a taxidermist’s masterpiece…and Ed Gein’s secret collection.
Despite the facial skin, assembled much like a rotting flesh patchwork quilt, the eyes look alive. As I look at them I’m struck with an odd combination of anxiety and pathos.

These works r very catchy. I can’t help but stare at the so real faces.
That last one…*shudder*. This artwork is reminiscent of that dreadful (but in a good way) music video by the Basement Jaxx, “Where’s Your Head At?”…or something Aphex Twin would produce.
