Grey’s Anatomy Episode 5.8 Recap: “These Ties That Bind”

Ellen Pompeo, Melissa George, Sandra OhTonight on Grey’s Anatomy, Cristina (Sandra Oh) is still bugging the hell out of Derek (Patrick Dempsey) by monopolizing Meredith’s time. She wakes them both up by hopping into bed with them, bearing the news that Hahn (Brooke Smith) is gone. She no longer works at Seattle Grace. Derek is peeved by the intrusion, but gets up to answer the door. The visitor is Sadie (guest star Melissa George), who is Meredith’s old friend from med school and who was her Cristina before Cristina was. She’s kind of a rebel, but we’ll get to that later. She took a break after med school to work in a morgue, but today is her first day as an intern at Seattle Grace. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Sadie call each other Death and Die, respectively, a story which Meredith is unwilling to share with Derek. (Cristina is all, “Her name’s not Death. It’s Mer.”) After Sadie bogarts Meredith, Cristina sulks in the kitchen with Derek about getting kicked out of bed. She also spends the entire rest of the episode being rude to Sadie. Aww, Cristina is jealous.

Elsewhere in the frat house, Izzie (Katherine Heigl) is still having a hard time letting go of Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) because he stubbornly won’t leave her alone, despite being, you know, dead. By the way, Izzie still has that brown sweater that she knit for him back when he was still alive. Alex notices that there is something on Izzie’s mind and actually shows compassion by offering to talk about it with her. He’s not even a jerk about it, either. I guess if Izzie has visions of Denny walking and talking even though he’s dead, then it’s not too much of a stretch to believe that Alex (Justin Chambers) can be nice….READ FULL RECAP AT BUDDY TV

Denny is telling Izzie, “I’m Here For YOU”, over & over … Meaning, he is here to take her to Heaven because she’s dying. She’s assuming that he means to support her and help her ‘get over’ him so she can get on with her life.

Supposedly, Loved Ones ‘visit’ you when it’s your time, to help you cross over.

I believe it happened with my Grandfather two days before he passed- my deceased Grandmother was apparently sitting on his bed while his Caregiver was putting him back to bed in the middle of the night.

I don’t know who my late Husband ‘saw’ before he passed… The last two weeks after his Heart Surgery for a Congenital Defect, he was in a drug induced coma. If I were to guess, it was probably his Grandmother who passed 17 days prior, after a battle with Lung Cancer.

Hopefully, the writers will give closure to the storyline regarding her adopted daughter, Sarah / Hannah, who has (had?) Leukemia and didn’t want to meet Izzie face-to-face. And, what about the re-ignited relationship with Alex Karev… he has the most troubled soul regarding women, who will he find happiness with?

    Stephanie,

I hope you are wrong. It makes complete sense but it will be a big mistake. I love Izzy! I wish they could have incorporated Denny in a different way because what they did this episode was rediculous! And next week, a ghost and a human having sex? Come on!

Producers (if only they saw this),

Thank you for finally getting rid of Hahn! She was an annoying character that brought nothing to the show. Plus her and Callie’s relationship was just awkward. However, now we need to get rid of Dr. Hunt. Cristina deserves someone way better than a guy with PTSD! I know she likes the powerful jerks and all but can’t we do better than him? Last but certainly not least, this Sadie character has got to go! Her “I’m so hard core let me cut myself” attitude is obnoxious and there is no way she can steal Merideth from Cristina.

I love this show, I buy all the seasons among other “Grey’s” products and I will be devastated if I am no longer able to watch my thurday night escape becuase they kill off Izzy and add an irritating intern!
