lox smörgåstårta

Smörgåtårta (voileipäkakku in Finnish) is a popular dish in Nordic countries that is similar to a layer cake but savory. The name directly translates to “sandwich cake” which perfectly describes this festive dish!

First written record of this fresh party dish was in 1934 in a Småland news paper and after the Second World War it started to grow in popularity. In Finland this dish is often served in social gatherings such as birthday parties and weddings.

Golden berries (or Peruvian ground cherries) grow in Peruvian and Ecuadorian Andes in South America and are related to tomatillos. They boost immune system, aid in weight loss, and improve vision and bone health. Make sure the berries are fully ripe before eating them because like green potatoes golden berries contain solanine which can cause irregular heart beat, vomiting and diarrhea.
