"Manhattan Manhunt" is the 7th episode of Season 2, and the 30th episode overall. It originally aired November 9, 2005.

Synopsis:

Second part of the Crossover with CSI: Miami, which began with their season 4 episode, "Felony Flight." Horatio Caine returns to NYC with Mac in order to continue their pursuit of a serial killer.

Tropes for the episode:

  • Bastard Bastard: The perpetrator is the illegitimate son of a multi-millionaire. He commits murders out of resentment towards his biological father and half-sisters.
  • Cut Himself Shaving: When Mac spots a scrape on the killer's psychiatrist's cheek, the man first claims he'd cut himself shaving, but finally admits that his patient had done it...and had just left via the back door when Mac & Don walked in, sending the two flying out after him.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Mac is so disgusted with the killer and the fact that he murdered innocent people out of resentment over his half-sisters getting his illegitimate father's wealth, he berates him with this:
You killed 12 people in two states over the last 72 hours and you want me to feel sorry for you because your daddy didn't kiss you when you were a baby?! You asked for my help? I *did* help you - you're where you belong...You rot in hell, you son of a b**ch.
  • Spree Killer: In addition to the 12 people Mac mentions at the end of this episode, the perpetrator had murdered a group of nurses in mid-town NYC prior to the events of "Felony Flight."
  • Strange Cop in a Strange Land: Lt. Horatio Caine, head of the Miami-Dade PD's Crime Lab, returns to NYC with Mac, follows leads, questions suspects and helps track down the killer, whom he hauls home with him to face trial in Miami.
  • Villain Cred: The murderer Horatio Caine follows to NYC from Miami is arrested. In lock-up, he realizes he's sitting next to a notorious serial killer. Looking at the man admirably, he gushes:
Rosetti: Henry Darius! I saw you in the paper, you killed those nurses! I killed someone once.
Darius: Oh yeah? Tell me about it.
