Tropes

  • The Bully: Beverly makes a habit of killing other people's self-esteem.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Leonard does when Beverly returns to the apartment drunk he finally calls her out on how disconnected they are, citing all of the incidents that Sheldon was up to date on but he was completely unaware of.
  • Cassandra Truth: Beverly doesn't believe Howard has a girlfriend, instead staying with the notion that he is in love with Raj. Leonard, just for laughs, doesn't help.
  • Christmas Episode: The episode is set at Christmas. It begins with Penny and Leonard decorating Leonard's Christmas tree and Sheldon criticising them and throwing shade at Christmas in general.
  • Commonality Connection: Sheldon gets along with Beverly just fine as they're both cold, arrogant scientists with a passion for maintaining a belief they are intellectually far superior to others.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: When Leonard gripes about how Sheldon is closer to his mother than he is Beverly accurately notes she and Sheldon keep in touch because they can relate better to each other while Leonard keeps his distance from her because of his "Well Done, Son" Guy issues.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Leonard and Beverly have absolutely nothing in common other than that they both wear glasses.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Howard and Raj by Beverly.
  • The Un Favourite: Beverly considers Leonard the least successful or accomplished of her children. Sheldon mocks Leonard for this.
